Last Time Out: Brockport is coming off a second straight loss, falling to #16 Geneseo in SUNYAC West Division play by a score of 15-12. Strong performances from
Allison Jennings,
Natalie Strough and goalkeeper
Morgan Elmer were not enough to get the win on the road. Geneseo's strong close to the first half made the difference in the contest, as Brockport now stands at 0-2 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC West play.
Hot Starts: Allison Jennings and transfer
Anna Leva have played great to open up the 2021 season, leading the team with seven points each. Jennings tied her career-high with five goals in the loss to Geneseo, giving her six goals and one helper so far this year. In her first game in the Green and Gold, Leva put up three goals and then added one goal and three assists against Geneseo. The pair have recorded multiple points in both games so far, and look to ride that momentum into Saturday's match.
Blocking the Cage: Junior Goalkeeper
Morgan Elmer is off to the best statistical start of her career, putting up strong numbers in net for Brockport. The SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week has now matched her career-high saves mark of 16 in both games so far this season. She first recorded her career-best saves mark in a win against Nazareth as a freshman, and has since tied that mark now three times.
Chasing History: Heather Conklin entered the 2021 season with 167 career goals, which ranks her third all-time in program history. After finding the back of the net twice against Geneseo, she now has three goals on the season, giving her 170 for a career. With just two more scores she will pass Angela Inzinna (2003-06) for second all-time and she needs 15 more goals to set a new program record.
Protecting the Nest: The Golden Eagles are finally on their home field for the first time since March 7
th, 2020. Since the 2016 season, the team has been incredible at home putting together a home mark of 28-7. In 2019, the last full season, Brockport finished the year 8-2 at home. In need of a bounce back win this weekend, the team will certainly welcome some home field advantage against Buffalo State.
Looking at the Bengals: The Buffalo State Bengals are 0-1 heading into Saturday's matchup, suffering a 12-8 loss to the hands of D'Youville College. Samantha Burlow and Kacey Stack each tallied three goals in the contest. Goalkeeper Janae Nelson came away with 10 saves in the loss. The last meeting between Buffalo State and Brockport, April 3
rd, 2019, resulted in a 17-8 dominant performance by the Golden Eagles.
Heather Conklin finished with six goals, while
Allison Jennings had three goals and one assist.
What's Next: Brockport heads back out for a pair of away games next, starting with a trip to Fredonia next week. The SUNYAC Western Division matchup is slated for Wednesday, March 31
st at 4 pm.
