#17 Brockport Hosts #12 Geneseo for Crucial SUNYAC West Battle

Brockport, NY – The No. 17 Brockport women's lacrosse team is at home on Wednesday for a huge rematch against the No. 12 Geneseo Knights. This SUNYAC West battle is scheduled to start at 4 pm at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.

Last Time Out: Brockport took care of business against Fredonia at home last game, winning by a score of 20-1. Cassidy Burnash had a game-high five goals in the win, coming from eight shot attempts. Allison Jennings put up five points with three goals and two assists. Heather Conklin got in on the scoring as well, registering four goals and a helper. The Green and Gold took an early lead and would lead for the entire contest for the dominant victory over the Blue Devils.
 
National Rankings: Both teams were featured in the IWLCA DIII Coaches Poll, released on Monday, April 12th. Brockport remains inside the top 20, coming in at 17th in the most recent rankings with a record of 4-2 overall. Geneseo has slowly crept up to 12th in the national poll, owning a record of 3-1 overall. Wednesday's result will have a definite impact on the rankings for next week's poll.
 
Previous Meeting: This will be the second and final regular season meeting between Brockport and Geneseo. The last time the two teams met, the Knights got the win at home, 15-12. Although the Green and Gold snagged an early lead, Geneseo would outscore the team 8-4 in the first half. Brockport won the second half, 8-7, but still fell a few scores short in the loss. Allison Jennings had a strong outing, finishing with five goals to lead both squads.
 
Divisional Standings: The SUNYAC West is made up of Brockport, Geneseo, Oswego, and Fredonia. At this point in the season the standings are as follows: 1. Geneseo, 2. Brockport, 3. Oswego, 4. Fredonia, 5. Buffalo State. The SUNYAC East is made up of Cortland, New Paltz, Oneonta, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The standings for the east are currently: 1. Cortland, 2. Oneonta, 3. New Paltz, 4. Potsdam, 5. Plattsburgh.
 
History was Made: Heather Conklin finished with four goals and one assist in the team's most recent win over Fredonia. With her first score in the game, coming in the opening minute of play, she became the program's all-time leader in career goals. Surpassing Kelly Wall's previous record of 184 career goals, Conklin now stands alone in the record book and continues to build upon her legacy at Brockport.
 
Numbers Don't Lie: The Golden Eagles currently have three of the top point scorers in the SUNYAC at this point in the season. Natalie Strough leads the conference in both points with 31 and assists with 22. Heather Conklin ranks third in the SUNYAC with 26 total points, and is second in the league with 21 goals scored. With 23 points on 17 goals and six assists, Allison Jennings is tied for fourth in the conference in points and is fifth in goals. Cassidy Burnash is also tied for sixth in the SUNYAC with 16 goals this season.
 
In Net: Morgan Elmer recently just earned her second SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday for her efforts last week. In two games she made 21 saves in the cage, including a career-high of 17 stops in the win over Nazareth. Elmer is currently first in the SUNYAC with a save percentage of .598. She has the lowest goals allowed average per game in the conference and is second with 58 saves on the year.
 
Looking at Geneseo: The Geneseo Knights are 3-1 overall and an undefeated 3-0 in the SUNYAC. Currently leading the SUNYAC West division, the only loss for the team was in overtime against No. 11 St. John Fisher, 11-10. The team has scored double-digit goals in every game this season, and is led by Hannah Marafioti's 23 points from 13 goals and 10 assists.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles have a busy weekend coming up, as they travel for back-to-back games against Buffalo State and Oswego. They take on Buffalo State on Friday at 4 pm before facing Oswego at 1 pm on Saturday.
