Golden Eagles Fly Past Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The No. 17 Brockport women's lacrosse team defeated No. 12 Geneseo at home on Wednesday, 15-7. The Golden Eagles have now won five in a row as they improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in SUNYAC play.
 
Heather Conklin had an incredible game, tying her career-high with seven goals on the day. Conklin tallied eight total points, was 3-for-5 on free position shots, and snagged six draw controls. Morgan Elmer was a stone wall in the net, making 17 saves to tie her career-high in the win.
 
Courtney Cunningham set a new career-high with four goals in the contest for the Green and Gold. Natalie Strough also had four points with one goal and three assists. Logan Hibbard registered one goal and two assists for a three-point outing.
 
Cassidy Burnash scored the first of her two goals to open the game to give Brockport an early 1-0 lead. The two teams traded scores as the game was tied at 2-2 halfway through the opening period. Conklin found the back of the net four times in the first half, helping the Green and Gold secure a 9-5 advantage at the mid-game break.
 
The visiting Knights got on the board first in the second half, as Geneseo trailed by four goals with 25:37 on the clock. Goals by Cunningham and Burnash helped create a bigger gap as Brockport led 11-6. Geneseo would only find one more goal in the game, as the Gold Eagles continued to pour it on. Three more scores by Heather Conklin would stretch the team's advantage to an eight-goal lead. Brockport cruised through the finish line for the 15-7 win.
 
Lyndsie Pratt snagged five draw controls in the contest and scooped up two ground balls. Cassidy Burnash scored two goals, Allison Jennings had two assists, and Danielle Hemly had two assists as well.
 
Geneseo's Hannah Marafioti recorded four goals for the visiting Knights as they drop to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in conference competition. Goalkeeper Margaret Rosaschi made 11 saves in the loss.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action this weekend with back-to-back road games on Friday and Saturday. They face Buffalo State first on Friday, beginning at 4 pm, and then head to Oswego for a 1 pm start on Saturday.
