Oswego, NY – The Brockport men's lacrosse team earned a bounce back win against Oswego away from home on Friday. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC following the 9-3 victory.
Owen VanWie recorded team-high and a season-high of four points on the day coming from two goals and two assists.
Liam O'Connor and
Brendan Halleran each beat the Oswego goalie twice in the contest.
Ethan Stiles did his job on the faceoff, winning 11 of the 16 draws against the Lakers.
Aidan Fitzgerald continues to be a core piece to the defense, causing two turnovers and snagging seven ground balls to lead the team.
Dallas Whitney showed great effort by scooping up five ground balls of his own.
Brockport controlled the pace of the game early, outshooting Oswego 11-3 in the first quarter.
Liam O'Connor scored an unassisted goal to give the team a 1-0 lead. The home squad was able to take advantage of a Brockport penalty to tie the score at 1-1 heading into the second quarter. The two teams traded goals to stay locked in a 2-2 tie with four minutes left until halftime.
Brendan Halleran stepped up for a man-up goal before the half to give Brockport a 3-2 edge.
The second half was not nearly as close, with the Golden Eagles offense coming alive. They would score six unanswered goals through the third and fourth quarters, taking a sizable 9-2 lead into the final stretch. Oswego would find one more score before the clock ran out, but Brockport emerged victorious on the road.
The Green and Gold outshot Oswego 51-21 in the contest and took advantage of some penalties by scoring three man-up goals. The team also was effective in moving the ball down the field, going 24-for-32 in clears, including a perfect 9-for-9 on clears in the third quarter.
Jack Peterson tallied one goal and one assist, while
Patrick Sheridan and
Peter Scavone each had one score.
DJ Stramonine and
Sean Duffy were both credited with an assist in the game. Goalkeeper
John Felice made six saves while playing the full 60 minutes to earn the win.
Ryan DuMont scored two goals for Oswego, while teammate Lucas Cioch had one goal and one helper. Goalie Kevin O'Donnell made 16 saves for Oswego, as the Lakers drop to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the SUNYAC.
The Golden Eagles are back home on Friday, April 23
rd for a Senior Day matchup with Cortland. This SUNYAC battle will begin at 4 pm.
