Brockport, NY – The Brockport men's lacrosse team hosted Cortland on Friday for a SUNYAC battle. The visiting Red Dragons proved to be too much, as the Green and Gold fell 16-4.
Ethan Stiles finished the contest 12-for-24 on faceoffs, had one goal, and led the squad with seven ground balls.
Rocco Santillo and
Joe Kealy each scored once in the game, as the pair went a combined 7-for-7 with placing shots on goal.
Owen VanWie also earned one goal in the loss, while teammate
Peter Scavone was credited with an assist.
Aidan Fitzgerald chipped in defensively with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
The first half was all Cortland, as the away team controlled the game with an 11-0 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles showed signs of life to start the second half.
Rocco Santillo's man-up goal in the third quarter put Brockport on the board. Santillo's goal would spark a 4-0 run by the team, which cut the deficit to 11-4 with less than five minutes in the third. The Red Dragons would have an answer, going up 13-4 heading into the fourth.
Another set of Cortland goals put the contest away, as Brockport was unable to cut into the lead any further.
Brockport drops to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC after the loss. Goalkeeper
John Felice made 12 saves in the game. Cortland is now 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while goalkeeper Marc Esposito had 13 saves.
Cortland's Colton Smith had a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Dante Yacavone and Pat Doyen both had five points for the Red Dragons.
The Golden Eagles are on the road Friday, April 30
th for their final game of the regular season. They face the Geneseo Knights at 4 pm.
