The nationally-ranked No. 15 SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team has secured the top seed in the SUNYAC West following a convincing 20-8 victory at home against Oswego State on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed in the West division and will host the No. 2 seed from the East division for the SUNYAC Conference Tournament Semifinals on April 29
th.
Brockport's
Allison Jennings led the way with a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists.
Heather Conklin added five goals and one assist, while
Natalie Strough had another excellent day all around as she posted five points on two goals and three assists.
Cassidy Burnash posted five points on four goals and one assist, while
Danielle Hemly added four points on two goals and two assists.
Prior to the conference tournament, the Golden Eagles will host nationally-ranked No. 19 William Smith on Saturday at 1 p.m. They will host senior day festivities prior to the contest against the Herons.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first 20:12 of action and never looked back to push Brockport's record to 8-2 overall on the season. Freshman
Logan Hibbard netted the first two goals of the contest and
Allison Jennings added a hat-trick in the opening stretch.
Brockport led 12-3 at the half and also outscored the visitors 8-5 in the final 30 minute stretch to hand the Golden Eagles their eighth straight victory. Brockport wraps up SUNYAC West Division play with a 7-1 record in conference.
Oswego's record moved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in SUNYAC West play. Brockport out shot the visitors 31-16 on the day and the Golden Eagles also converted on 15-of-17 clear attempts.
Courtney Cunningham finished the day with one assist for Bport, while
Logan Hibbard finished with three points and a team-high five ground balls. Hibbard also caused three turnovers and snagged six draw controls. Conklin finished the day with five draw controls.
Alexandria VanDerKar,
Erin Wegrzyn, and
Danielle Hemly each added two ground balls.
Morgan Elmer stopped seven shots and earned the victory between the pipes for Brockport.
Erin Lant came on in relief of Elmer in the second half and stopped one shot for the Golden Eagles.
Logan Castiglione led the Lakers with three points on two goals and one assist.
