Golden Eagles Fight for 9th Straight Win

Brockport, NY – The No. 15 Brockport women's lacrosse team won its ninth game in a row Saturday, defeating No. 19 William Smith 17-14. Brockport wraps up the regular season 6-0 at home, 9-2 overall, and 7-1 in SUNYAC play.

Heather Conklin had a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Allison Jennings also scored four goals in the contest, while teammates Logan Hibbard and Cassidy Burnash each had three.

The visiting Herons took control of the game early, striking first and going up 3-1 just seven minutes in. Three consecutive goals for the Golden Eagles would give them a 4-3 edge. After a pair of Ellie Burns scores and an answer by Cassidy Burnash and Natalie Strough, Brockport remained ahead 6-5. William Smith would close the half strong with three unanswered goals, taking an 8-6 lead into the break.

Morgan Elmer made 10 of her saves in the first half for the Green and Gold. The home team trailed in the draw control department, 12-3, and had committed three more turnovers than its opponent in the half.

Brockport came out of halftime with four unanswered scores, including back-to-back free position goals from freshman Logan Hibbard. William Smith would bounce back with three goals of its own to regain an 11-10 lead. A man-up goal by Cassidy Burnash would spark a six goal run for the Golden Eagles that gave them a 16-11 advantage with less than 10 minutes to play. They were able to hold off any William Smith comeback attempt down the stretch, securing the 17-14 win at home.

Conklin had four goals on five shots, snagged three ground balls, four draw controls and caused three turnovers. Hibbard played well with three goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and an assist. Courtney Cunningham finished with three ground balls, five draw controls, and one goal.

The Golden Eagles now turn their sights towards a SUNYAC Semifinals matchup with Oneonta on Thursday, April 29th. Brockport will be hosting this contest at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium for a 4 pm start.
