Women's Tennis Welcomes Oswego for Senior Day

Brockport, NY – The Brockport women's tennis team takes on Oswego this Saturday for its final home match of the spring season. It all gets started at the Brockport Tennis Courts at 1 pm.

Senior Day: This Saturday's match will mark the final home event of the season for Brockport, meaning the seniors will compete at the Brockport Tennis Courts for the last time. Sarah Mahar and Linda Coleman Lawrence will be honored prior to the start of play this weekend in a short Senior Day ceremony to thank them for all their time and effort.

Last Week: The Golden Eagles started their season last week with home matchups against Fredonia and Geneseo. They fell to the visiting Blue Devils, 3-6, and then lost again to Geneseo, 1-8. Brockport is now 0-2 overall and 0-2 against SUNYAC opponents.

Doubles Action: Andrea Banke and Linda Coleman Lawrence found success together in the second doubles slot against Fredonia. Fighting for a tough match point, the pair won its matchup against Princess Unita Obi and Dominique Martello, 8-6.

What a Day: In the match with the visiting Blue Devils, Linda Coleman Lawrence had a strong outing. Not only did she team up with Banke for an 8-6 win in second doubles, but she played well individually as well. By way of a 6-4, 6-0 score, she took another point for the Green and Gold with a win in third singles.

Mahar's Battle: In second singles against Fredonia, Sarah Mahar had to battle for a well-deserved point for the team. After losing the first set, 4-6, Mahar would win the second, 6-4. Heading into the third set for the tiebreaker, she secured the point with a 7-5 set.

Sweet Caroline: Caroline Stewart scored the lone point for Brockport in its loss to Geneseo last week. Stewart won her matchup in the first singles spot by a convincing two-set score of 6-2, 6-3. Her and doubles teammate Heather Phillips came up just shy in first doubles, losing 7-8 in the set.

Looking at Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers hold a record of 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. After falling to Geneseo in the first match of the season, 8-1, the Lakers bounced back with a 5-4 win over Fredonia on Monday. Brockport swept Oswego 9-0 the last two times these teams faced off.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles are now hitting the road for the remainder of the season, starting on April 26th at Geneseo. The match is set to begin at 3 pm.
