Tennis Hosts Cortland & Oswego For Busy Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team is at home for double duty this weekend. The team faces Cortland at 3 pm on Friday and Oswego on Saturday at 1pm.

Last Time Out: The Green and Gold got its second win of the season last weekend against Houghton. The squad defeated the visiting Highlanders, 6-3, to defend the home courts.

Hot Start: Holding a 2-0 record overall to start the season, Brockport is off to a great start for the fall season. Undefeated at home, the team has momentum going into the start of SUNYAC play this weekend. This marks just the second time in the last five years that this team began a season with two straight wins.

Doubles Domination: A big part of the team's early success has been its dominance in doubles competition so far. In two matches the Golden Eagles have not lost a single match point in duos. The pairings of Eliza Gonzalez-Caroline Stewart, Elizabeth Sirico-Heather Phillips, and Samantha Aubin-Shannon Aubin look to continue riding this wave.

Singles Success: Surrendering just five of the possible 12 match points in singles play from the first two competitions, the Golden Eagles have consistently won their one-on-one matchups. Both Caroline Stewart and Samantha Aubin have yet to lose during singles play. Taking it a step further, Stewart has won both singles matchups without losing a set.

Cortland: The Cortland Red Dragons enter Friday's match with a 1-1 record overall and against SUNYAC opponents. After falling 9-0 to New Paltz in the season opener, they bounced back with a 7-2 win against Plattsburgh. This will be the team's first trip away from its home courts this season. The last matchup between Brockport and Cortland was in the 2019 season, which saw the Red Dragons take a 6-3 win.

Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers were also at home for both of their season opening contests. They fell to Plattsburgh, 7-2, and New Paltz, 9-0, for an 0-2 start. The team will face Fredonia on Friday as it looks to get its first SUNYAC victory of the season. During the 2021 spring season, Oswego beat Brockport in both meetings.

What's Next: After dipping into SUNYAC play this weekend the Golden Eagles prepare for the ITA Northeast Region Championship next weekend. The ITA Regionals run from September 18th-20th, and will be hosted by William Smith College.
