Brockport Takes 2 on First Day of Golden Eagle Invitational

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team won both of its matches on day one of the Golden Eagle Invitational on Friday. The squad defeated the University of Rochester, 3-0, and Thiel College, 3-1. The Golden Eagles have now won five straight as they improve to 6-1 overall on the season.
 
Meaghan Mastro led the team with 20 kills and nine total blocks on the night. Kerri McHale earned 55 assists, seven service aces, and 10 digs. Andrea Coyle compiled 13 kills and 12 digs, while teammate Madalyn Bowen had 29 digs.
 
Megan Loomis had 12 kills and Jordan Thompson totaled 11 kills. Shelby Budnick finished day one of a full weekend with nine service aces and nine digs.
 
Match 1: Brockport 3, University of Rochester 0
 
The Green and Gold recorded its third 3-0 sweep of the season with its win over the Yellowjackets to start the day off strong. The home team battled for a 25-22 win in the first set and then took the second set 25-19. In the third and final set, Brockport dominated its way to a 25-10 match point to secure the sweep.
 
Jordan Thompson had a match-high of nine kills in the contest. Shelby Budnick found a soft spot in the Yellowjackets defense to register six service aces.
 
Kerri McHale led all players with 26 assists from her setter spot in the win. In her libero role, Madalyn Bowen had a game-high 19 digs.
 
Meaghan Mastro did a little of everything to tally seven kills, two aces, four digs, and six total blocks. Andrea Coyle chipped in with seven kills and eight digs, while Myah Frostclapp totaled three blocks.
 
Match 2: Brockport 3, Thiel College 1
 
The Golden Eagles opened up the match with an incredibly dominant showing in the first set, earning the first match point by a score of 25-8. They would continue a strong showing for a 25-17 win in the second set, going up 2-0. The Tomcats refused to get swept, as they stole the third set, 25-23. Brockport then bounced back in the fourth and final set for the 25-12 win to put Thiel away.
 
Meaghan Mastro accumulated 13 kills, three solo blocks, and two service aces to pace the Green and Gold. She was super-efficient on the attacking side of the net, earning a .706 attack percentage.
 
Megan Loomis had 11 kills and six digs in the win over Thiel. Setters Kerri McHale and Ashely Allen were credited with 29 and 14 assists respectively. McHale also had seven service aces in the match.
 
Madalyn Bowen led the team again in digs, recording 10 in the contest. Shelby Budnick finished the match with three aces and four digs. Megan Muehlbauer ended up with seven kills, while Andrea Coyle had six kills and four digs.
 
The Golden Eagle Invitational continues on Saturday, as the squad takes on two more challengers on the home court. The Golden Eagles take on Ithaca College at 1:30 pm before closing the weekend out against Nazareth at 3:30 pm.
