Volleyball Wins 7th Straight and Goes Unbeaten for the Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team wrapped up the Golden Eagle Invitational without losing a match after defeating Ithaca and Nazareth on the final day. The Golden Eagles have now won seven straight following the successful weekend, as they are now 8-1 overall.
 
Andrea Coyle and Meaghan Mastro both broke 20 kills on the day, finishing with 23 and 20 respectively. Coyle added 12 digs to her tally, while Mastro accumulated nine digs and nine total blocks.
 
Jordan Thompson had 18 kills and four blocks on Saturday. Teammate Megan Loomis finished the day with 16 kills. Myah Frostclapp registered a total of 11 blocks to go with nine kills in two matches.
 
Setters Kerri McHale and Ashley Allen combined for 77 total assists across both matches. McHale also had nine digs and three aces, while Allen racked up seven digs and five blocks.
 
Shelby Budnick was effective with seven service aces and 23 digs. Madalyn Bowen played her libero role well, leading the team with 39 digs in the two wins. Ellen Paddock also showed tremendous hustle with 20 digs on the day.
 
Match 1: Brockport 3, Ithaca 2
 
On September 7th, the AVCA released its updated Division III Coaches Poll which featured both Brockport and Ithaca in the receiving votes category. In a battle between two teams just outside of the AVCA Division III Top 25, it was a tight battle all the way through.
 
Ithaca was fortunate to take the first set, 25-22. The Golden Eagles bounced back in the second with a 26-24 win to tie the match up at 1-1. They found a rhythm in the third set to go up 2-1, winning the set, 25-16.
 
With the match on the line the visiting Bombers won a tight fourth set, 25-22, pushing the contest to a fifth set. The team's found themselves going back and forth all set until it was tied at 13-13. Brockport would prevail with a 15-13 win to secure the win.
 
It was a full team effort as Andrea Coyle, Meaghan Mastro, Megan Loomis, and Jordan Thompson all had at least 10 kills. Mastro and teammate Myah Frostclapp both totaled five blocks in the match.
 
Madalyn Bowen led the way with 23 digs, while Shelby Budnick and Ellen Paddock accumulated 17 and 16 digs respectively. Kerri McHale was credited with 29 assists and Ashley Allen had 21 of her own from the setter position.
 
Match 2: Brockport 3, Nazareth 0
 
The Green and Gold swept the Nazareth Golden Flyers in the final matchup of the Golden Eagle Invitational to win number seven in a row. Brockport controlled each and every set in this one to take the 3-0 win by way of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-14.
 
Myah Frostclapp held down the middle of the net with seven kills and six total blocks. Jordan Thompson led the squad with eight kills and added two blocks.
 
Andrea Coyle had six kills and four digs, while Meaghan Mastro finished with six kills and four blocks. Shelby Budnick recorded three service aces and six digs.
 
Kerri McHale tallied 17 assists, while her partnering setter Ashley Allen was credited with 10 assists and five blocks. The libero, Madalyn Bowen came away with a team-high 16 digs and five assists.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 15th when they hit the road for the beginning of SUNYAC play. They take on Geneseo at 6 pm.
