Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team will travel to Utica College on Wednesday, September 15 for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Pioneers. Heading into the matchup Brockport posts a 3-1 record against Utica's 1-3 record.
Coming off the team's first loss this season, the women will try and turn things around this week while attempting to start a new winning streak. In its last game against Earlham,
Katie Ziemba was the lone goal scorer for the Golden Eagles having found the back of the cage off an assist from
Emily Hall. Making her first career appearance in goal was
Emma Acevedo who in her debut managed to record nine saves against 14 shots on goal.
Ziemba's seventh goal this season came against Earlham, which improved her career goals totals to 23. This put her in sole possession of fourth in program history while increasing her all time in career points to fifth place at 59. Senior
Katelynn Mello still sits in third place all time in career assists with 15 while Ziemba is tied for fourth place in assists with 13.
The Pioneers most previous game saw them pick up their first win over Empire 8 Conference Opponent Washington & Jefferson College which resulted in a 6-3 final. Scoring the six goals for Utica were Madeline Krecidlo, Jeslyn Files, Alyssa Pisano and Sydney Scaccia who scored the last two goals of the game. Files also recorded two assists on the night with, Scaccia and Mackenzie Mix managing to pick up an assist against the Presidents as well. Megan Chamberlain spent 60:00 minutes in goal for the Pioneers making 13 saves while allowing three goals.
The last time these two teams faced off back in 2019 saw the Golden Eagles defeat the Pioneers 2-1 in overtime.
Katie Ziemba opened the fourth quarter to tie the game at one with an assist from
Bailey Lazore with a quick shot in from the top of the circle to give Ziemba the rebound opportunity.
Following Wednesday's game, the SUNY Brockport field hockey team will travel again to Colonie, NY where it'll take on The Sage Colleges on Saturday, September 18th at 2 p.m.
