Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team opens up its 2021-22 season at home this weekend with matches on September 3
rd and 4
th. The team faces St. John Fisher at 4 pm on Friday and then welcomes Houghton at 1 pm on Saturday.
 
Hoffman Day: On September 4
th, Brockport will host "Hoffman Day" to celebrate the career of 
Susan Hoffman. A ceremony for Susan will be held at halftime of the men's soccer game – 12 pm game time – and the field hockey game – 3:30 pm game time. A reception will be held in Eagles Lookout in Tuttle immediately following the men's soccer game. Hoffman is recently retired from her position of Associate Athletic Director, after serving SUNY Brockport for more than 34 years.
 
Spring Season: Although the Golden Eagles were not able to compete in the fall of 2020, they were fortunate enough to play a condensed season in the spring of 2021. Playing only SUNYAC matchups, the squad went 1-4 in the shortened five match schedule.
 
Returners: Brockport welcomes back two players who have been with the program for the last few seasons in 
Caroline Stewart and 
Heather Phillips. Both are seniors with hopes to take advantage of a full schedule this year. In the spring season of 2021, Stewart was unbeaten at 3-0 in singles competition.
 
New Faces: Four newcomers join the nest for the Golden Eagles this year. 
Elizabeth Sirico joins the squad as a junior. The team has three sophomores who will all make their debut this fall for the program as well. 
Samantha Aubin, 
Shannon Aubin, and 
Eliza Gonzalez all look to have a strong first year on the team.
 
Schedule Layout: The Green and Gold begin the season with four straight matches at home. The team takes on Fisher and Houghton this weekend to get the action started. Then Cortland and Oswego come to town next weekend for the beginning of SUNYAC play. The ITA Northeast Region Championship runs from September 18
th-20
th, as the squad travels to Geneva, NY to compete. A trip to Fredonia on September 25
th marks the final match of the fall portion of the season. April 15
th is when the action picks back up, as the Golden Eagles have three conference matchups down in Binghamton, NY that weekend. This all leads into the SUNYAC Championships which are set to begin on April 29
th.
 
Looking at Fisher: Friday's match will also be the start of the season for St. John Fisher. The Cardinals were able to play in the spring of 2021, as their record was 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8 conference. They finished the season with a loss to Nazareth in the conference championship match.
 
Looking at Houghton: The Highlanders will have their season opening match with Grove City on Friday before the meeting with Brockport on Saturday. In the spring of 2021, as a member of the Empire 8, Houghton went 4-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The team's season was also ended by Nazareth in the postseason.
 
What's Next: The Golden Eagles have two more home matches next weekend on September 10
th and 11
th. They welcome the Cortland Red Dragons that Friday to kickoff SUNYAC play at 3 pm. That Saturday the Oswego Lakers stop by for a 1 pm matchup.
