Golden Eagles Defeat New Paltz in SUNYAC Opener

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team opened up SUNYAC play with a win on Friday, defeated New Paltz 1-0. With the win Brockport jumps to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
 
Kiley Longin scored the only goal of the contest, burying a left-footed shot past the keeper in the second half. The shot was set up from a long ball played by teammate Julia Mascaro, who was credited with the assist.
 
Goalkeeper Kayla Usborne recorded her third shutout of the season, keeping the clean sheet for all 90 minutes. She finished with five saves on the day.
 
New Paltz outshot the Green and Gold 4-1 in the first half, but Usborne's effort in net kept the visiting Hawks out of the net. The junior goalie made three saves in the first 45 minutes of regulation.
 
Brockport began to assert itself in the second half taking control of the match. The squad earned five of its seven corner kicks after halftime. Constant pressure gave the home team a 6-3 edge in the shooting column over New Paltz in the second half.
 
In the 63rd minute, Julia Mascaro hooked up with Kiley Longin for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Brockport would hold onto its 1-0 lead for the remainder of the competition.
 
The Golden Eagles are back at home Saturday for another afternoon SUNYAC contest. They take on the Oneonta Red Dragons at 2 pm.
