Grantham, PA – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team swept the University of Mary Washington on Friday, 3-0, to begin the Messiah Tournament with a win. The squad improves to 9-2 overall on the season.
Meaghan Mastro led the way with 14 kills on just 22 total attacks, earning a .500 hitting percentage. Mastro also had a team-high four blocks on three block assists and one solo block. She also had two service aces, while teammate
Jordan Thompson had three aces and six kills.
Andrea Coyle recorded nine kills and eight digs, as
Krysti McDonald tallied seven kills.
Kerri McHale had 17 assists and
Ashley Allen finished with 15 assists.
Madalyn Bowen led the Green and Gold with 13 digs in the contest.
Shelby Budnick and
Kerri McHale both registered eight digs on the night as well.
The Golden Eagles took the first set 25-17, but they had extra work to do in the following sets to complete the sweep. The second set was much closer, as they took the point by a 25-21 victory over Mary Washington.
The third and final set would be a close battle throughout. Every time Brockport took a slight edge the opposing Eagles would answer with a quick run to close the gap. The score was tied on 10 separate occasions before Brockport eventually earned the 27-25 win to finish the sweep.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow at the Messiah Tournament with two more matches to close out the weekend. They take on host Messiah College at 10 am before facing #11 Juniata College at 2 pm.
