Alliance, OH – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team opened up play at the Mount Union Tournament on Friday night against the host school, Mount Union. Brockport took the first set of the match before dropping three in a row, losing 3-1 to the Purple Raiders.
The Green and Gold move to 1-1 early on in the season, with two more matches on Saturday to close out the weekend competition.
Meaghan Mastro and
Andrea Coyle tied for tops on the team with eight kills each in the match. Mastro also led the squad with 13 digs, while Coyle was right behind her with nine.
Myah Frostclapp,
Jordan Thompson, and
Megan Loomis all tallied six kills on the night.
Madalyn Bowen contributed with nine digs and a team-high four service aces.
Setter
Kerri McHale finished with 23 assists, without registering a single set error, and came away with seven digs.
Ashley Allen racked up seven assists and three digs in the loss.
After taking the first set of the match, 25-19, Mount Union would find a rhythm in the second set. The home team took set two, 25-17, and then battled for a 25-20 win in the third set to go up 2-1.
The Purple Raiders controlled the game throughout the fourth set to earn the third and final match point for the 3-1 win. Maria Ellesin and Heaven Bartell combined for 23 kills, while Alyssa Kasaris and Mollie Thomas combined for 38 digs. Mount Union is now 2-0 overall this season.
The Golden Eagles are back on the court Saturday with two more matchups for the weekend. They take on Baldwin Wallace at 10 am and then face Carnegie Mellon at 12 pm to finish out the tournament.
