Alliance, OH – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team closed out the weekend strong with wins over Baldwin Wallace and Carnegie Mellon at the Mount Union Invitational. The squad swept Baldwin Wallace, 3-0, and battled through a five-set thriller against Carnegie Mellon for the 3-2 win.
Meaghan Mastro was named to the Mount Union Invitational All-Tournament team. She totaled 19 kills, 18 digs, and two blocks in two matches. Teammate
Madalyn Bowen accumulated 51 digs on the day and added 10 assists.
Kerri McHale has already passed the 100-mark for assists in her setter role. She tallied 51 assists in two winning efforts on Saturday, while also having 28 digs.
Andrea Coyle finished the day with 27 kills and 10 digs as Brockport improved to 3-1.
Match 1: Brockport 3, Baldwin Wallace 0 – Final
The Green and Gold dominated the opening set of the match, cruising to a 25-10 claim of the first match point. The second set was a tight one, but Brockport ultimately prevailed with a 25-23 win. The third set was another close contest, as the Golden Eagles outlasted the Yellow Jackets, 28-26.
Megan Loomis led the squad with 14 kills in the match, while
Krysti McDonald added 10 kills.
Kerri McHale recorded 30 assists and
Madalyn Bowen was active with 20 digs.
Match 2: Brockport 3, Carnegie Mellon 2 – Final
The second matchup of the day was a battle to the end, going the full five sets before a winner was decided. The Golden Eagles narrowly took the first set, 27-25, to earn the match point. They then dropped sets two and four with the same score of 25-21, but managed to win the third set, 25-20. For the deciding match point Brockport fought for the 15-10 win.
Andrea Coyle had a team-high 18 kills to pair with her eight digs.
Meaghan Mastro tallied 15 kills, 11 digs, and had two solo blocks.
Madalyn Bowen recorded a match-best 31 digs in the win.
Kerri McHale contributed all over with 21 assists and 22 digs.
Ashley Allen was also effective as a setter in the match, earning 15 assists.
Shelby Budnick was effective with her serves with five service aces.
The Golden Eagles bounced back from a loss on day one of the weekend with two big wins on the final day of action. They are back home on September 7
th for a matchup with Roberts Wesleyan at 7 pm.
