Volleyball Competes at Mount Union Tournament this Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team hits the road this weekend to compete at the Mount Union Tournament, hosted by Mount Union out in Alliance, Ohio. The team will take on Mount Union Friday at 7 pm, Baldwin Wallace on Saturday at 10 am, and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday at 12 pm.
 
Last Time Out: In the team's last contest it defeated Houghton, 3-0, earning the clean sweep at home. Brockport took the first set in a back and forth battle, edging the highlanders 25-20 for the first match point. The Green and Gold dominated the second set, 25-9, to take the second point of the night. The third set was a close one, as the teams battled to a 25-25 score to make it anyone's game. Back-to-back kills from Megan Muehlbauer sealed the deal for Brockport as it secured the final match point, 27-25. The squad gets the 2021 season started with a 1-0 record.
 
Above the Net: Megan Loomis and Myah Frostclapp asserted themselves playing at the net. The pair combined for 17 kills and four blocks in the season opener. Freshman Julia Schlundt added two blocks of her own in her debut. Meaghan Mastro, Andrea Coyle, and Krysti McDonald registered six kills each in the win over Houghton.
 
Hitting the Floor: Madalyn Bowen got the job done throughout the match, leading Brockport with 10 digs in the victory. Coyle and McDonald also showed a strong effort defensively, tallying seven digs each. Kerri McHale and Meaghan Mastro both recorded five digs as well to pitch in.
 
Setting the Table: The Golden Eagles setters assisted on 40 of the team's 44 kills against the Highlanders, and only committed four setting errors. Kerri McHale recorded a game-high of 27 assists to start the year out strong. Ashley Allen also played her role well, contributing 12 assists from the setter position.
 
Tournament Weekend: The Green and Gold are on the road for the Mount Union Tournament this weekend, as the action gets started Friday night at 7 pm against the host Mount Union. The team takes on Baldwin Wallace on Saturday morning at 10 am before closing the weekend with Carnegie Mellon at 12 pm on Saturday. Mount Union: The Purple Raiders are hosting their tournament this weekend, which marks the beginning of their season. Wooster is the first matchup for the team, kicking the weekend action off at 3 pm on Friday. Mount Union is then slated for matchups with Brockport, Thiel, and Geneseo for the remainder of the competition. In the spring of 2021, the team went 5-12 overall and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament.
 
Baldwin Wallace: The Yellow Jackets are currently 1-0 heading into this weekend's invitational, as they defeated Franciscan University, 3-1. Starting Friday at 5 pm the team gets action going against Carnegie Mellon, followed by a 7 pm battle with Geneseo. On Saturday Baldwin Wallace will take on both Brockport and Wooster out in Alliance, OH. This past spring the team finished 14-6 overall and 13-5 in the conference, as its season ended with a loss in the conference semifinals.
 
Carnegie Mellon: This weekend will also be the start of the 2021 season for the Tartan's. The action for them begins at 3 pm on Friday with a matchup against Thiel. Carnegie Mellon then takes on Baldwin Wallace at 5 pm to finish day one of the weekend competition. Saturday brings around matchups with Brockport and Wooster to close out the invitational. In the spring season, the program was able to squeeze in just four matches to earn a 3-1 record.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles are back at home on Tuesday, September 7th for a non-conference battle with the Roberts Wesleyan Red Hawks. The match is scheduled to start at 7 pm.
