Clean Sweep Gives Brockport its 3rd Straight Win

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team defeated Roberts Wesleyan at home Tuesday night, earning a clean 3-0 sweep. This makes it three straight wins now for the Golden Eagles as they improve to 4-1 overall.
 
Andrea Coyle led the team with 13 kills while adding 11 digs, three total blocks, and two service aces. Ashley Allen set her teammates up all night with 35 assists and she had three service aces.
 
Madalyn Bowen led the team with 17 digs, making it now four out of five matches with double figures. Myah Frostclapp registered an efficient .600 attack percentage as she tallied nine kills on 15 attempts. Frostclapp also came up big with two of the three set winning points.
 
The first set was the closest of the three in the matchup as Roberts battled for a 17-16 lead at one point. The Green and Gold turned it on down the stretch to seize a 25-19 win in the first set.
 
Just as Brockport started to pull away with a 10-6 lead in the second set, the visiting Redhawks closed the gap. After the set was tied up at 11-11, the home squad began to create some distance with a 22-14 edge. Brockport took set two, 25-17, and aimed for its third clean sweep of the season.
 
In the third and final set of the match, the Golden Eagles were comfortably ahead for the majority of the set. Holding an 18-10 lead, they cruised on to close out the night. They won the last set, 25-14, earning the sweep over Roberts Wesleyan.
 
Brockport earned an attack percentage of .279 for the match, compared to the .083 mark from Roberts. The squad also benefitted from quality serving from multiple players. Ashley Allen, Andrea Coyle, Madalyn Bowen, Shelby Budnick, and Kerri McHale combined for 11 service aces.
 
The Golden Eagles now prepare for the Golden Eagle Invitational, as they will host matchups against the U of R, Thiel, Ithaca, and Nazareth. The action begins Saturday with a 5 pm meeting with the U of R and a 7:30 pm battle with Thiel.
