Field Hockey Claims 5-1 Victory Against Nazareth

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team defeated Nazareth on Tuesday night by a score of 5-1. The women are now 3-0 overall to start the season.

Recap: The Green and Gold came out of the cage strong putting up six unanswered shots in the first quarter. It didn't take long before the Golden Eagles got on the board as Katelynn Mello scored at 4:07 into the game off an assist by Paige Thowe. Two minutes following the first goal, Brockport's Bailey Lazore would get into the stat column in 2021 finding the back of the cage from the team's leader in points Katie Ziemba. Five minutes following her assist Ziemba would have a goal of her own off a rebound by Nazareth goalkeeper Amanda Chuttey.

Following a silent second quarter Hannah Janes managed to get the Golden Flyers on the board after an assist by Bailey Selman. This would prove to be the only goal for Nazareth. With just under four minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter Ziemba would score again increasing the Golden Eagles lead, 4-1. Starting off the 4th quarter, Maria Palma would claim her first goal of her collegiate career after scoring from an assist by Paige Thowe.

Freshman goalkeeper Ella Buchanan went up against 11 shots making six saves for the Golden Eagles. She advances her record to 3-0 making 11 total saves so far this season thanks to the help of her defense not allowing many shots to get off by opposing teams. For the Golden Flyers, Chuttey made nine saves on 14 of Brockport's shots on goal.

Record Watch: With Ziemba's two goals and assist tonight she climbs up in the career record book ranking fifth all time in Points (57), tied for fifth in goals (22) and tied for fourth in assists (13). With the 13th goal of her career Mello has claimed a spot in the goals record books as well tied for 20th all time. She is also tied for 15th in career points (43) and sits alone at third place in career assists (15).
