Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team lost a close one at home Wednesday against Alfred University, 3-2. The loss puts the squad's record at 1-1-1 overall on the season.
Julia Mascaro had a solid outing as she scored one goal and assisted on the other Brockport goal.
Franchesca Polcaro also found the back of the net in the contest.
Katherine Olsen and
Sam Maghrak were also credited with an assist on the day. Goalkeeper
Kayla Usborne came away with four saves in the loss.
The visiting Saxons struck first with a goal in the 32
nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead. They would make it 2-0 a little later with a score in the 44
th minute of action. Trailing by two scores, the Golden Eagles would finally get on the board just before halftime.
On a corner kick that was punched out by the Alfred goalie,
Katherine Olsen reset the ball back to
Julia Mascaro who struck the ball into the back of the net. Brockport entered halftime down 2-1.
Less than a minute into the second half the Green and Gold tied the game up at 2-2.
Sam Maghrak forwarded the ball to
Julia Mascaro who then touched it over to
Franchesca Polcaro for the equalizer.
In the 70
th minute of regulation the Saxons were awarded a penalty kick after a Brockport foul was called in the box. They capitalized on the opportunity, taking a 3-2 edge over the home team. With neither team scoring the rest of the way, Brockport took its first loss of the season.
The Golden Eagles are on the road this weekend as they take a quick trip over to St. John Fisher. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
