The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team lost to visiting SUNY Cortland 44-31 in SUNYAC league play on Tuesday afternoon. Brockport held Cortland to just eight points in the final 10 minutes, but could not find a rhythm offensively on the afternoon as the Red Dragons improved to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Brockport (8-6, 3-5) looks to snap a three-game slide on Friday afternoon when it travels to New Paltz for SUNYAC action at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles will square off against the Hawks for the second time in their last four games.
11 different players recorded at least one point for the Golden Eagles on the afternoon. They were led by seven points and seven rebounds from
Serena Sordetto.
Zoe Zutes added four points and three boards, while
Erin Radack chipped in with a team-high eight rebounds and added three points.
Cortland jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first five minutes of action before Brockport used a 7-2 run in a span of 2:59 to make the score 11-7 in favor of the Red Dragons at the end of the first quarter. Brockport trailed 24-15 at the half.
The Red Dragons used a 12-4 run in a span of 5:11 in the third quarter to take a 36-19 lead with ten minutes left in regulation. The Golden Eagles made a late run, holding Cortland scoreless in the final 4:55 of regulation. Brockport outscored the visitors 11-0 in the stretch and were led by three points each from Sordetto,
Anna Lee and
Nicole Leslie.
Cortland's Maggie Malone led the Red Dragons with 10 points and four rebounds, while Shannon McGuire added eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
