Brockport, NY – A pair of road games is on the slate this weekend for the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team. The squad travels to take on New Paltz at 4 pm on Friday and then move on to face Oneonta at 4 pm on Saturday.
One Point Victory: The Golden Eagles snapped a two-game losing skid with a close win over Cortland at home earlier in the week. They defeated the visiting Red Dragons, 59-58, improving to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the SUNYAC.
Mekhi Beckett led all scorers with 19 points, shooting an efficient 8-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-5 from deep. The team is now 4-2 on its home court this season.
Mekhi Buckets: Mekhi Beckett is second on the team in scoring this season, as the freshman is averaging 13.7 points per game. After scoring 19 last time out, he has now scored double digits in six straight games and in nine of his last ten contests. Beckett is one of the most lethal deep threats in the SUNYAC, as his 30 made 3-pointers is fifth in the conference and his 49.2% from deep ranks third.
Getting to the Rim: Jahidi Wallace (15.7 ppg) and
David Grady III (11.6 ppg) have consistently attacked the basket on their way to averaging double figures. Wallace is converting on 52.2% of his shots, while Grady is shooting 49.6%. The pair also lead the team in makes and attempts at the free throw line.
Jahidi Wallace, at 72-95 (75.8%), leads the conference in free throw attempts and makes. Wallace also ranks 25
th in the nation in free throw attempts.
Looking at the Hawks: New Paltz enters the weekend 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference after recently falling to Oneonta, 71-54. The team had previously won three games in a row, which includes a 90-78 win over Brockport the last time these squads met.
Jahidi Wallace had 23 points in the game, but four double-digit scorers from New Paltz helped the Hawks pull out the win. #12 Rylan Blondo leads the Hawks, averaging 18 points per game, while #30 Solomon Neuhaus and #21 Isaiah Bien-Aise both average double figures as well.
Matchup with Oneonta: The Oneonta Red Dragons have won three straight going into the weekend and are 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the SUNYAC. They will host Geneseo on Friday night before taking on Brockport Saturday. Oneonta is currently undefeated at 7-0 playing on its home court. #2 Frankie Williams leads four double-digit scorers for the Red Dragons, as he averages 15.5 points per game. Brockport defeated Oneonta, 85-65, the last time to two teams met. The Green and Gold benefitted from four double-digit scorers, which included a 14 points, 11 rebound double-double from
David Grady III.
Coming Back Home: The Golden Eagles are back at The Vlog for another SUNYAC matchup in their next game. They play host to Plattsburgh on January 28
th. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
