Wallace Goes Off for Career-High 32 Points in Loss on the Road

Oneonta, NY – Jahidi Wallace set a new career-high in scoring tonight, going off for 32 points and eight rebounds. However, Brockport was unable to pull out the win on the road as the team fell to Oneonta, 83-73.

Wallace was 12-for-21 from the floor and 8-for-9 at the foul line on his way to a career night in the scoring column. He scored 32 points without making any shots from beyond the 3-point arc, doing his damage in the painted area.

Freshman Mekhi Beckett was the other double-digit scorer for the Green and Gold, pouring in 17 points. David Grady III had eight points and two blocks, while newcomer Tony Arnold had seven points in his second game with the squad.

Some solid shooting to start the game gave Oneonta a slim, 14-7, lead with 12:18 left in the opening half. The home team would work to extend its advantage to 11 points, as Brockport struggled to score. Jahidi Wallace started to get his game going before halftime, cutting the deficit to five points with less than three minutes until the break. However, the Red Dragons finished the first half strong to secure a 39-25 edge at the half.

The opening minutes of the second half saw Oneonta stretching the lead. The team was ahead of the Green and Gold, 57-38, with 13:57 on the clock. Brockport eventually worked its way back into the game, as four quick points from Monte Johnson cut the deficit to 10 points. In the final 6:06 of regulation, Jahidi Wallace scored 15 of his career-high 32 points to lead the Golden Eagle comeback attempt. Oneonta was just too solid at the free throw line down the stretch, holding on for the win.

The Red Dragons had two players score at least 20 points, as Daniel Derice and Dylan Trombley combined for 42 points. Frankie Williams added 16 points and seven rebounds for the team. Oneonta improves to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the SUNYAC this season.

The Golden Eagles are now 10-6 overall and 5-5 in the conference after back-to-back losses this weekend. They look to get back on track with a win on Friday, January 28th when the matchup with Plattsburgh at home at The Vlog. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
