Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team pulled out a close victory at home over Plattsburgh on Friday, 50-43. Brockport snaps a five-game losing skid to get back over .500, improving to 9-8 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Serena Sordetto came in off the bench to lead the Golden Eagles with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Chelsea Henry chipped in with 11 points and five boards, as the only other double-digit scorer for the squad.
Molly Mahony led the team with 10 rebounds, while
Kylee Rosbrook snagged eight boards.
Erin Nolan also contributed on the glass, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds. Defensively,
Erin Radack and
Hali Lucia combined for eight steals.
The score was close the entire game, as the two teams were tied at 20-20 going into halftime. Although Brockport didn't shoot well from the field in the first half, 9-for-15 shooting at the free throw line and solid defense made up for it. Shooting 2-for-4 from the field and 4-for-5 at the line,
Serena Sordetto scored eight of her game-high 13 points in the first half.
Chelsea Henry started to get it going in the second half, as Brockport worked to edge out a lead. Henry would score nine of her 11 points in the second half. Getting to the foul line was key for the team all game, as it went 17-for-29 at the line compared to just 4-for-12 for Plattsburgh. After heading into the fourth quarter with a 33-30 lead, the Golden Eagles would have their highest scoring period of the night to secure the win. They outscored Plattsburgh, 17-13, in the fourth to inch out the seven-point victory.
Mya Smith was the leading scorer for the Cardinals, finishing with 13 points. Hannah Ruberto contributed with six points and 11 rebounds, while Plattsburgh drops to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for game two of this three-game homestand. They will take on Potsdam at The Vlog, for a 2 pm tip-off.
