Men's Basketball Outlasted at Home by New Paltz

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team fell to New Paltz at home on Saturday, 90-78. The loss pushes Brockport's record to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in SUNYAC play this season.
 
Jahidi Wallace led all scorers with 23 points in the game, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and 7-for-7 at the foul line. Joseph Pena was 3-for-5 from deep on the way to a career-high 12 points, while Mekhi Beckett added 11 points of his own.
 
New Paltz got off to an early 14-4 lead less than five minutes into the contest. The visiting squad would hold a lead for the rest of the half, but Brockport worked to close the gap. Mekhi Beckett and Jahidi Wallace both were solid scoring the ball in the first half, helping to keep Brockport down just two points, 42-40, at the break.
 
The Hawks shot 63.6% from long range in the first half, as they benefitted from the long ball all game. They would go on to make 16-of-31 attempts from deep in the contest, while Brockport was just 5-for-12 in 3-point shooting.
 
It was close for the majority of the second half, as the Golden Eagles would fight to take a slim lead. They were up 56-55 with 12:19 on the clock, after solid contributions from the reserves. Brockport's bench outscored the New Paltz subs, 30-13, in the game. Tied at 65-65 with seven minutes remaining, New Paltz would soon take control. The Hawks slowly crept out to a lead, which eventually grew to double-digits, as they secured the 90-78 win on the road.
 
Ryan Blondo led four double-digit scorers for New Paltz in the contest with 19 points to go with his four steals defensively. Isaiah Bien-Aise had 18 points, Lucas Seyoum scored 16, and Solomon Neuhaus finished with 15. The Hawks improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action next week when they travel over to Geneseo for another SUNYAC matchup. They take on Geneseo on Friday, January 14th for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
