Field Hockey Takes Down Medaille for 2nd Straight Shutout Victory

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team defeated Medaille University at home Wednesday night, 5-0, in non-conference action. Brockport has now shutout its opponent in back-to-back games, improving to 7-5 overall.

The Golden Eagles dominated possession of the ball throughout the match, not allowing the opponent to get a shot off for the second straight game. They have now outscored teams, 14-0, and outshot the opposition, 73-0, in the last two contests.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Green and Gold would get on the board in the second. Alyssa Fuccillo would beat the Medaille goalie early on in the second quarter to put the team up 1-0. Just 49 seconds later, Kaitlyn Aitken added to the lead with a score. Kalena Eaton was credited with the assist on the goal, as Brockport entered halftime up 2-0.

As the third quarter got moving, Paige Thowe would double the Golden Eagles' lead on the scoreboard. She scored an unassisted goal at the 35:32 mark in the game and then received an assist from Emmalee Moore a minute later for another goal. Brockport worked its way to a 4-0 lead with just one period left to play.

Already ahead of the visiting Mavericks by four scores, Brockport looked for more to create a larger cushion on the scoreboard. At the 48:30 mark, Gianna Salerno lasered a shot past the goalie to make it a 5-0 game. Kalena Eaton had the assist on the insurance goal, her second helper of the match.

For the second game in a row, Ella Buchanan and Katelynn Banning shared time in net. The pair has now recorded back-to-back, combined shutouts for the Green and Gold.

The Golden Eagles are on the road this weekend for an important SUNYAC battle against Oswego State. The action gets started at 1 pm on Saturday, October 15th out in Oswego, NY.
