Plattsburgh, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team improved to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the SUNYAC after a 3-1 victory over Plattsburgh State. Brockport took the first two sets (25-17, 25-20), lost the third (25-21), and closed out the win in the fourth (25-11).
Leading the way with 12 kills,
Jordan Thompson also put up match-highs with 13 digs and 12 points. Thompson finished without an attacking error to record a .667 hitting percentage.
Myah Frostclapp was just a half point behind her teammate, totaling 11.5 points on 10 kills and one block assist.
Megan Loomis made her season debut on the night, tallying 10 kills in her return to the court. Last year's SUNYAC Rookie of the Year earned a .500 hitting percentage in the match.
Julia Reedy and
Alenna Williamson combined for 15 kills in the bounce back win for Brockport.
Kerri McHale led all players in the match with 33 assists. She also contributed three service aces and seven digs.
Ashley Allen was also effective in her rotations as setter, racking up 17 assists.
Madalyn Bowen found a soft spot on the court to put up a team-high four service aces to go with eight digs.
In the first set the Golden Eagles earned a slight edge to go up 11-7. It wasn't long before they rattled off a big run to take a 21-10 lead on the way to a win in the first set, 25-17.
The second set was a closer affair, as the Cardinals battled Brockport to an 18-18 score. The Green and Gold score four straight points to spark what became a 25-20 win for the second match point.
It was all Plattsburgh for the early goings of the third set, as the Cardinals jumped out to an 18-6 lead. Down, 23-11, Brockport would battle back to make the score read 23-19. However, Plattsburgh was able to pull out the, 25-21, win to score its first match point of the night.
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the fourth set, taking a quick 10-2 lead. They were the first to get to 20, dominating the set from start to finish for the 25-11 win.
Brockport is back in action on Saturday for another SUNYAC matchup. The squad heads to Potsdam for a 1pm start time.
