Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team was at home on Saturday for a win and get in game against Oneonta for a spot in the conference tournament. Brockport came up short against the Red Dragons, 1-0, missing out on the postseason.
The Golden Eagles are now 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC. They have one match remaining in the season, hosting Geneseo next week. Oneonta clinches the fourth seed and improves to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
It was Senior Day for Brockport as the team celebrated its senior class in a short ceremony prior to the game.
Brockport outshot its opponent, 5-1, in the first quarter but the game was scoreless through one. Both teams had chances in the second, but the goalies were ready for the challenge. The score was tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
At the break Brockport had a two-shot advantage and the teams were tied with three corner opportunities each.
In the third quarter, the tie was finally broken by the visiting Red Dragons. Oneonta's Carly O'Connor was assisted by Michaela Maniscalco to put the team up 1-0.
Throughout the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles worked to create opportunities for the equalizer. However, they came up empty on three penalty corners and one shot attempt in the period. Oneonta held on for the one-goal victory.
Emmalee Moore threatened with three shots on goal for the Green and Gold.
Paige Thowe and
Bailey Lazore each fired one shot on frame as well.
Ella Buchanan made two saves and let up one score in net.
The Golden Eagles will host Geneseo on Wednesday, October 26
th for the final game of the year. The action gets started at 4pm on Dr. Linda Arena Field.
