Men's Soccer to Host Pair of SUNYAC Matchups this Week

Brockport, NY- The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team will host Fredonia and Oneonta this week in another round of SUNYAC matchups. Brockport will host Fredonia on Wednesday, October 5th at 4pm on the Dr. Linda Arena Field. The Golden Eagles will then play Oneonta on Saturday, October 8th at 12pm on the Dr. Linda Arena Field to help celebrate Homecoming Weekend on campus.

Week Recap: The Green and Gold had a 3-0 shutout win over Buffalo State on the 28th of September. Seamus Parker got the action going early with a goal less than six minutes into the match. Parker notched his second of the season, with Matthew Stefaniw on the assist to put Brockport up 1-0. Later in the first half, Warren Banks filled his name in on the scoresheet with an unassisted score at 27:27. Despite being outshot by the Bengals, 11-8, in the opening half the Golden Eagles entered halftime with a 2-0 lead. With time running out for Buffalo State, Russ Domm was able to put the game out of reach with a late goal. Alex Rivara assisted Domm on the score at 84:13, sealing the win.

The Golden Eagles played Plattsburgh State on October 1st, coming from behind for a 2-1 victory. Matthew Stefaniw and Russ Domm scored the Golden Eagles' two goals in the match to help give Brockport the win. Warren Banks assisted both Stefaniw and Domm with their goals. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Stefaniw tied the game up at the 56:16 minute mark of the game. Shortly after, Russ Domm scored his team-leading fifth goal and third game-winning goal of the season to complete the comeback.
 
Conference Standings: At this point in the season, Brockport is sitting at 6-1-4 overall and remains undefeated at 4-0 in SUNYAC play. Going into this week of competition Brockport is leading the conference with 12 points. The full conference standings heading into this week's slate of competitions is as follows: 1. Brockport, 2. Cortland, 3. New Paltz, 4. Oneonta, 5. Plattsburgh, 6. Geneseo, 7. Buffalo State, 8. Oswego, 9. Potsdam, 10. Fredonia.

Defensive Athlete of the Week: Goalkeeper Andrew Taylor was named the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday for the second time this season. He totaled 11 saves and allowed just one goal in two matches last week. Taylor made eight saves in a 3-0 win over Buffalo State, recording his SUNYAC-leading fifth shutout of the year. He also made three saves the squad's, 2-1, win over Plattsburgh. Taylor currently leads the conference with his .833 saves percentage and is second with 35 total saves.

Statistical Leaders: With five goals and one assist for 11 total points, Russ Domm is tied for ninth in the SUNYAC in points. Domm leads the team in points and goals, as his five scores is tied for sixth in the conference. Matthew Stefaniw is right there as well with his 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists), sitting just outside of the top 10 in the SUNYAC. Stefaniw is joined by Warren Banks, Max Voyer, and Alex Rivara as leaders of the team with two assists this season. 
 
Looking at the Blue Devils: Fredonia State is 1-6-3 overall and 0-3-2 in conference going into Wednesday's game. The team has recorded 12 goals this season, six of which came from their three leading scorers: Hudson Kwiatkowski, Michael Ranieri and Kaleb Steward. The Blue Devils average 9.2 shots a game. They have received 19 yellow card and one red card so far this season. The team has three goalies who all see ample time in the net but leading them is senior William Richardson. Richardson has started seven games and spent 565:42 in the goal this season, allowing ten goalies and making 24 saves. 
 
Looking at the Red Dragons: Oneonta is ranked 16th nationally in DIII Soccer and has an overall record of 7-1-1 and 2-1 in the conference after losing 0-1 to Geneseo this past Saturday. The team has a total of 23 goals, averaging 14.4 shots and 2.56 goals per game. The Red Dragons have recorded 14 yellow card and no reds so far this season. Their leading scores are Lucas Fecci and Milton Mancias Magana who have both put up five goals this season. Next with four goals each is Ethan Brunell and Joe Holder. Oneonta has two goalies, but senior Nate Hanna is the go-to starter. He has started every game this season and has 796:35 minutes. He has allowed eight goals and made 27 saves. Hanna is also from Baldwinsville and attend Charles W. Baker high school where he played on the same team as Brockport goalie Andrew Taylor.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will travel to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, October 12th to play at College Stadium at 7pm in Geneseo, NY for another SUNYAC match.
