Brockport, NY – SUNY Brockport hosted SUNY Cortland on Homecoming, for a crucial conference matchup. After winning the first two sets, Brockport ultimately fell to Cortland, 3-2, for its first loss in SUNYAC play this season.
Taking the first two sets (25-20, 25-16), the Golden Eagles got off to a tremendous start in this conference rivalry match. However, the visiting Red Dragons turned it around by taking the next three sets (25-20, 25-23, 15-11) to comeback for the win.
Brockport is now 14-5 overall and 4-1 in SUNYAC play, while Cortland improves to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
The SUNYAC points leader,
Jordan Thompson led all players in the match with 27 total points and a match-high 24 kills.
Andrea Coyle tallied nine kills and 18 digs, as well as earning a .375 hitting percentage on the day.
Myah Frostclapp matched her season-high with seven total blocks, coming from five block assists and two solos. Frostclapp finished with eight kills on the way to recording 12.5 points. Libero
Madalyn Bowen recorded a season-high 34 digs in the match.
Kerri McHale led the team with 29 assists, while fellow setter
Ashley Allen added 13 of her own. Brockport had the advantage in blocks, 11-7, and committed just 17 errors compared to 27 by Cortland. Freshmen
Alenna Williamson and
Alexis Sison both notched career-highs with four blocks each to help the squad earn the edge in the category.
The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back on the road next weekend with a pair of conference matchups. They head out to face Plattsburgh at 6pm on Friday, October 14
th before going to Potsdam for a 1pm start on Saturday, October 15
th.
