Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team fell to the No. 21 ranked University of Rochester at home on Saturday, 67-54. Brockport is now 5-4 overall and holds a 3-1 record in the SUNYAC.
Zairea Hannah finished with 16 points and a team-high six rebounds in the game. She went to work down low, going 8-for-11 from the floor on the way to her season-high in points.
Anna Felice also scored 16 points in the contest, shooting 2-for-5 from deep and 6-for-7 at the free throw line.
Juan Brown and
Shannon Blankenship combined for 16 points. Brown was 4-for-8 with nine points and five rebounds, while Blankenship hit two shots from deep on the way to seven points.
The first was tight the whole way, as the score was tied at 7-7 with three minutes left in the period. Both
Zairea Hannah and
Anna Felice scored six points in the quarter, leading Brockport to a 16-13 advantage going into the second.
Felice and Hannah continued their momentum early on in the second quarter, as the Golden Eagles kept pace with the nationally-ranked Yellowjackets.
Juan Brown got going with six points on three baskets in four possessions to maintain a slim lead for Brockport. U of R closed the half strong to edge out a 38-34 lead at the game's midpoint.
The visiting Yellowjackets came out hot to start the third, quickly creating an 11-point lead. Felice paired three straight makes at the foul line with Hannah's finish in the paint to bring the deficit down to six at 4:29 on the clock. Rochester made some key free throws to close out the third with a 56-46 lead.
U of R controlled the fourth quarter with its defense, pushing its lead to 66-46 with less than three minutes in regulation. The Green and Gold scored all eight, fourth-quarter points in the final 2:15. However it was too little too late as the team ultimately fell, 67-54.
#25 Katie Titus had a big night for the Yellowjackets, leading the way with a game-high 37 points and seven rebounds. She shot 15-for-25 from the field and 5-for-11 from long range.
The Golden Eagles now prepare for a trip down south to compete at the Mauro Panaggio Tournament, hosted by DME Academy in Daytona Beach, FL. They start the event with a 4pm matchup against Elmhurst on Monday, December 19
th.
