Women's Basketball Defeats Elmhurst in First Game Down in Daytona

Daytona, FL – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball defeated Elmhurst University, 60-53, to open up play at the Mauro Panaggio Tournament at DME Academy. Brockport moves on to the championship game of the event tomorrow against Nazareth at 1pm.
 
Brianna Cordell logged the first double-double since joining the Green and Gold. She scored a season-high 12 points and came down with 10 boards off the bench. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste also scored 12 points in the contest.
 
Anna Felice hit double-digits as well, finish with 10 points, four assists, and five boards. Defensively, Zoe Zutes blocked three shots and teammate Shannon Blankenship had four steals.
 
The two teams ended up tied at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. Cordell finished back-to-back layups in the paint to give Brockport a 15-12 lead going into the second. By the 6:22 mark in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles held a 10-point advantage. They would enter halftime with a 31-23 lead.
 
Elmhurst made a run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just four points with 4:28 on the clock. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste went on a quick spurt, scoring seven points on three straight possessions. Brockport held an 8-point lead going into the final period. The team kept Elmhurst from making a big run in the fourth, holding on for the 7-point win.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 6-4 overall going into Tuesday's matchup with Nazareth. The championship game of the Mauro Panaggio Tournament is scheduled for 1pm, hosted by DME Academy.
