Daytona, FL – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team dominated Northern Vermont University – Lyndon, 103-56, on Monday to close out the Mauro Panaggio Tournament.
Mekhi Beckett posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 9-for-15 from the field offensively and also snagged three steals on the other side of the court.
Tyler Cowie finished with 16 points, two blocks, and two steals off the bench.
David Grady III had 11 points and six boards, while
Jahidi Wallace poured in 10 points. Freshman
Zachary Rice scored a career-high 10 points.
The Golden Eagles shot 56.5% from the floor and 80% at the free throw line in their highest scoring performance of the season. They got 50 points from the reserve players in the contest, outscoring the NVU starters by 28 points.
Brockport trailed, 3-2, early in the game and soon would take the lead for good. At 15:35 in the first half, the squad created a double-digit lead. By the midpoint of the first, NVU was faced with a 17-point deficit. The Green and Gold controlled the court all half, taking a 54-24 lead into halftime.
Mekhi Beckett got hot early on to start the second half, pushing the lead to 44 points with 15:53 left on the clock. With the game out of reach, the Green and Gold reserve players were called upon to close it out. The team cruised through the finish line, completing the trip to Daytona with a 47-point win.
The Golden Eagles improved to 8-3 overall with the win and complete the Mauro Panaggio Tournament 1-1. They return home on Friday, January 6
th for a SUNYAC matchup with Geneseo at 7:30pm.
