Oswego, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team upset #12 Oswego on the road Friday night, 58-47, for its fifth consecutive win. Brockport improves to 5-1 overall on the season and remains undefeated at 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
Jahidi Wallace posted his first double-double of the season to lead the Green and Gold in the contest. He shot 8-for-14 from the field on the way to 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Mekhi Beckett made plays on both ends of the floor to total 15 points and a career-high three blocks.
David Grady III came away with a game-high 12 rebounds for the squad.
Colby Jordan made some nice plays defensively with a career-high five steals.
The story of the night was Brockport's work on defense that held the nationally-ranked Lakers to their worst offensive performance of the season. Oswego scored a season-low of 47 points and shot poorly at 25.7% from the field, 18.5% from deep, and 60% at the foul line.
Both teams got off to a slow start scoring on the night, but Brockport was able to earn a 10-7 lead halfway through the first half. Oswego made sure to keep the game close as halftime approached, with the score tied at 20-20 with two minutes left in the first.
Jahidi Wallace provided a quick, 7-point scoring spurt to close the half, giving the team a 28-25 lead at the break.
Oswego would eventually take the lead, 39-35, as the second half got going. The score was tight nearly the entire second half, as the scoreboard showed a 45-45 tie with less than 10 minutes left in regulation. Brockport's defense helped edge out a 6-point lead with 6:25 on the clock. The Lakers were held scoreless in the final six minutes of play. The Golden Eagles were able to put the game away at the foul line for the 11-point win.
Brockport returns to its home floor on Saturday for another conference contest. The team welcomes the Cortland Red Dragons for a 5pm tip-off.
