Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind against Fredonia for the, 70-68, victory. Brockport went 6-for-8 from long range in the fourth to erase a 15-point deficit, as the team improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC.
Anna Felice finished with a team-high 20 points, including 13 points in the fourth quarter. She shot 3-for-5 from deep and 6-for-10 from the floor in the game. Felice scored the final seven points for the Green and Gold to help complete the late comeback.
For the third time this season,
Juan Brown set a new career-high in the scoring column. She finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and swiped four steals for a career-high.
Zairea Hannah has now logged back-to-back double-doubles, with 10 points and 12 boards in the game. Tuesday night's performance marks her third double-double of the season.
Anna Lee hit double figures for the second time this season with 11 points against the Blue Devils. She was 2-for-6 from beyond the arc, while also chipping with three steals and three assists.
Hali Lucia distributed the ball well for the Golden Eagles on offense, dishing out a career-high six assists. As a team, they tallied a season-high 17 assists on 24 made field goals in the road win.
Brockport snuck out to an early, 6-3, lead in the first quarter before Fredonia went on a run to take the lead. The Blue Devils hit 5 out of 12 shots from long range in the first to take a 21-15 advantage into the second.
The Fredonia lead was extended to 12 points towards the end of the second quarter.
Juan Brown and
Anna Lee scored the team's last seven points to bring the Golden Eagles within single digits at halftime. They trailed, 39-30, with 20 minutes in the books and 20 more to go.
Brockport only gave up two points in the first five minutes of the third, as the team made it a 1-point game at 41-40. The defense held Fredonia to its lowest scoring quarter of the night in the third, as the Blue Devils shot just 3-for-16 in the period. However, they would still enter the fourth with a slim lead at home, 48-42.
The final period of regulation was an exciting one, as the two teams combined for 48 points in the fourth. Brockport posted a new season-high for a quarter, with 28 points to close out the game.
Fredonia got hot early on in the fourth, as it created the largest lead of the game at 15 points with 7:22 on the clock. The next possession, at 7:06 on the clock,
Anna Felice hit began the Brockport, 3-point barrage that sparked the comeback. Felice was joined by
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste,
Shannon Blankenship, and
Anna Lee during the long range assault.
In the final 7:06 of the contest, the Golden Eagles outscored Fredonia, 24-7. They made six shots from deep in that span, with Felice leading the comeback with 13 points in the same time frame. At 1:11 on the clock she hit the go-ahead shot from deep to give Brockport a 69-68 lead, the team's first since 5:17 in the first quarter. Brockport completed the 15-point comeback to sneak away with the 2-point victory.
The Golden Eagles return to their own hardwood on Thursday night for a non-conference battle with Alfred State. Tip-off is set for 6pm at The Vlog.
