Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team got off to a hot start Friday night against Potsdam, but couldn't hang on for the victory. The Bears grabbed the win at home over Brockport, 75-69. The Green and Gold drops to 9-11 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
Kylee Rosbrook finished with a team-high 11 points and grabbed five boards in just 15 minutes. Rosbrook was 5-for-7 from the field and also blocked two shots on defense.
Erin Nolan and
Serena Sordetto both had 10 points and seven rebounds. Sordetto added two blocks and two steals defensively.
Brockport also received solid contributions from
Erin Radack who produced nine points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Anna Felice scored eight points in just 11 minutes played, while
Molly Mahony had six points and tied her season-high with six assists.
The Golden Eagles shot 55.6% in the first quarter, getting off to a strong start in the contest. They also held Potsdam to just 3-for-18 shooting in the period as they entered the second quarter up, 21-9. The team continued to shoot well in the second, going 7-for-14 from the floor. However, Potsdam would outscore Brockport, 23-17, to make it a close game. The Bears shot 53.9% in the quarter and converted on 8-of-9 shots at the foul line. The Green and Gold entered the mid-game break with a 38-32 lead after a buzzer beating 3-pointer from Potsdam.
The Bears would hold on to their momentum from the second as the third quarter carried on. They outscored Brockport, 21-16, in the third as the two teams traded leads back and forth. Although the Golden Eagles continued to shoot the ball well, Potsdam took advantage of winning the turnover battle with 22 points off turnovers in the contest. Leading, 54-53, as the fourth quarter began, Brockport fell behind early on in the period. Potsdam would lead by as many as nine points, as it did enough to hold off the Green and Gold down the stretch.
Potsdam was led by 22 points from Caroline LaFountain, as the home team benefitted from four double-digit scorers. The Bears improve to 12-9 overall and 7-8 in the SUNYAC, with a matchup against Geneseo on Saturday at 2 pm.
Down to four games remaining in the regular season, the Golden Eagles get back on the hardwood on Saturday. They are on the road once again for a 2 pm tip-off against Plattsburgh.
