No. 10 Brockport Takes on No. 7 William Smith in Top 10 Showdown

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is on the road Wednesday for a big top-10 matchup. No. 10 Brockport takes on No. 7 William Smith College for a 4 pm battle out in Geneva, NY.

Last Outing: Brockport dominated Nazareth on the road last week, cruising to a 16-3 victory. Cassidy Burnash, Logan Hibbard, and Allison Jennings each recorded a hat trick as the offense was firing on all cylinders. Six different players finished with at least two points and the squad was a perfect 4-for-4 on the free position.

Keep on Climbing: Improving to 2-0 after the win over Naz, the Green and Gold continues to climb up in the rankings. In the most recent IWLCA Division III National Poll the team moved up two spots from the week before, coming in at No. 10 in the nation. Brockport already has a top-25 win on the resume against No. 19 Denison and looks for another against No. 7 William Smith.

Goalie of the Week Again: Morgan Elmer was named the PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row. She made a career-high 22 saves, just two short of the program's single-game record against Naz. She allowed just two goals before exiting the game in the final ten minutes as the Golden Eagles held a double-digit lead. She also scooped up five ground balls for Brockport. She currently leads the SUNYAC in all major goalie categories including saves (39), goals against average (6.97), and goals against (13).

Hibbard's Huge Day: In the match against Nazareth, last year's SUNYAC Rookie of the Year Logan Hibbard set a career-high with eight points. She had four goals and four assists to lead the way for the Brockport offense on the road. As the team leader with 11 points on the season so far, she is tied for fifth in the conference.

Keep it Rolling: Cassidy Burnash and freshman Alayna Foos both rank inside the top 20 in the SUNYAC with seven points thus far. Burnash is the team leader with seven goals already just two games in, notching back-to-back hat tricks. Foos has showed out in her first two collegiate outings, tallying five goals and two assists. Allison Jennings has been hot as well with six goals so far, recording two straight hat tricks to start the year.

William Smith So Far: The No. 7 nationally ranked Herons have gotten off to a strong start in 2022, opening the season 3-0. They have impressive wins over Oswego (11-3), Geneseo (20-6), and Nazareth (19-5). William Smith has four players that have already broke double-digit points on the year. Allie McGinty leads the way with 14 points (3G & 11A), Anna Murphy has 13 (10G & 3A), Maddie Montgomery has 12 (11G & 1A), and Molly Davis has 10 (7G & 3A). Starting goalie Maura Smeader has come up with 17 saves in net, owns a .680 saves percentage, and has a 3.56 goals against average.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles finally get to their home field on Friday for their home opener against St. Lawrence University. The game is set to start at 3 pm at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
