Men's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime to #14 John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team (4-2) lost to #14 John Carroll (6-0) in a hard fought high scoring 16-15 overtime game.
 
Offensive Summery
Five different Golden Eagles recorded multi goal game as Santillo led the Golden Eagles offense scoring four goals in the game. Jhovanny Olivares recorded a hat-trick with his three goals while Patrick Sheridan, Owen VanWie, and Carson Colucci each scored two goals with Nelson Logan and Nate Asking also scoring one goal each.
 
VanWie, Logan and Olivares each recorded two assists with Askin recording one.
 
Olivares finished the game with a team high five points.
 
Defensive Summery
Brockport recorded 10 caused turnovers and 21 total turnovers. Against John Carroll, eight Golden Eagles had caused turnovers with Aidan Fitzgerald leading the team with three. Olivares and Carson Colucci each scooped up a team high three turnovers as VanWie, Logan, Sheridan and Max Riley grabbed two turnovers a piece. Fitzgerald, Santillo, Askin, John Felice, Ethan Stiles, Chris bock, Blake Palozzi and Luke Conway each recorded one turnover each.
 
The Golden Eagles took an early lead in the game going up 6-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. Rocco Santillo scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Nelson Logan 37 seconds into the game. Santillo and VanWie would both score twice in the first with Logan and Sheridan each scoring as well.
 
John Carroll would inch closer in the second quarter making it a 9-8 game with Santillo opening the quarter with his third goal of the game with Olivares and Colucci scoring too.
 
Both Brockport and John Carroll would score three times each in the third quarter. John Carroll scored the first two goals of the third to take its first lead of the game 3:15 into the quarter. Just over a minute later Brockport would tie it up with a goal from Nate Askin and take the lead again with another goal from Santillo with 7:57 left. Sheridan would score to make it a 12-11 Brockport lead heading into the final quarter.
 
In the fourth John Carroll would score four unanswered goals making it a 15-12 game deficit for Brockport before two goals from Olivares and a goal and assist from Colucci in the final 10 second of play tied it up at 15-15 each sending it into overtime.
 
With 1:33 remaining in the first overtime, John Carroll would take the win 16-15.
 
Team Summery
Brockport tallied 37 shots, 21 turnovers, picked up 34 grounds balls, won 21 of 33 faceoffs and went 19-21 on clears while John Carroll recorded 31 shots, 20 turnovers, picked up 35 ground balls, won 12-33 faceoffs and went 17-18 on clears.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will next travel to New Paltz on Saturday, March 26th with faceoff scheduled for 1:00pm.
