NEW PALTZ, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team (5-2, 1-0) won its conference opener Saturday after new after traveling to SUNY New Paltz (1-6, 0-1) and defeating the Hawks by a score of 15-5.
Offensive Stats Leaders
Rocco Santillo continued his stellar performance where after being named this past weeks PrestoSports SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week managed to record six more goals today against New Paltz. He also tallied two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Patrick Sheridan,
Nate Asking and
Nelson Logan both scored two goals as Sheridan also recorded an assist to end his day with three points.
Blake Palozzi,
Luke Conway and
Ryan Haugh also scored one goal each in the victory.
Ryan McCarthy led the team in the assist's column picking up three in the game. Sheridan and
Owen VanWie were the only other Golden Eagles to record assists in the game.
Defensive Stat Leaders
Midfielder
Max Riley and Long Stick Midfielder
Aidan Fitzgerald were two of the teams top defenders against the Hawks as both secured four ground balls in the game. Fitzgerald also managed to be a problem for the Hawks as he caused a team high four turnovers in the game.
Askin recorded three caused turnovers and one ground ball while Sheridan and Santillo each recorded two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Defender
Anthony McGee scooped up two ground balls causing one turnover while
Jhovanny Olivares recorded one ground ball and one caused turnover against New Paltz.
Keeper of the Goal
John Felice (5-2) was the winning goalkeeper where he spent the full 60-minutes in net for SUNY Brockport. He made 10 save against 15 shots on goals after facing a total of 28 shots in the game.
Team Stats
The Golden Eagle's maintain their NCAA Division III No. 1 ranked clearing attempts stats as after nearly going perfect with 12-13 on clear attempts they maintain their .926 clearing percentage.
The Golden Eagles offense was hot as it fired off a total of 63 shots against SUNY New Paltz. The team picked up a total of 31 ground balls to New Paltz's 19.
Ethan Stiles went .500 at the faceoff circle where he won 11-22 faceoffs.
Nate Askin went 1-1 in his only faceoff attempt of the game.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will next travel to Alfred University of a makeup game originally scheduled back in February to start the season. Faceoff is set for 4:00pm in Alfred, NY.
