Granville, OH – The No. 16 Golden Eagles defeated No. 12 Denison, 15-11, in their season opener on the road. After trailing 8-5 at the half, Brockport scored seven goals in the third quarter to spark the comeback victory.
Alayna Foos led Brockport with four points from three goals and one assist. Foos notches her first start, first goal, first assist, and first hat trick in her collegiate debut.
Allison Jennings and
Cassidy Burnash both scored hat tricks as well to start the year strong.
Logan Hibbard finished with one goal and two assists, while
Courtney Cunningham and
Danielle Hemly each had one score.
Julia Quinlan scored twice to notch the first goals of her career.
Claire Odett tallied one goal and one assist in her first game in the Green and Gold.
Goalkeeper
Morgan Elmer came up with 15 saves, two caused turnovers, and two groundballs.
Alexandria VanDerKar's effort contributed two draw controls, two groundballs, and two caused turnovers.
Taylor Ford and
Devin Tietjen both caused one turnover as well defensively.
Brockport got off to a strong start, taking a 3-1 lead just five minutes into the first quarter. However, Denison soon took control of the game and owned a 4-3 edge heading into the second. Allaire Kotz scored three goals in the second to push Denison's lead to 8-5 at the break.
The Golden Eagles took off in the third quarter, outscoring Denison 7-2 in the period to regain the lead. After
Alayna Foos tied the score up at 10-10,
Allison Jennings and
Cassidy Burnash each scored to give Brockport a 12-10 lead. Jennings and Burnash would both score again in the fourth to help Brockport push ahead for the 15-11 win.
The Green and Gold snagged a nice win over the 12
th nationally ranked team in Denison. The squad is now 6-0 all-time against Denison, since the programs began playing each other in 2016.
Brockport is on the road again next week for a matchup against Nazareth College. The game is scheduled for a 4 pm start on Wednesday, March 9
th.
