Brockport Women Currently in Third; School-Records Fall on Day One of Regionals

The SUNY Brockport track and field program completed day one of the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Indoor Conference Champions hosted by Nazareth College on Friday at the Golisano Training Center.  The Brockport women's team currently sits in third place out of 45 teams with 31 total points, while the men's team is in sixth place with 15 points.  Day two begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Senior jumper Chanyce Powell set a school-record with a huge triple jump mark of 12.18 meters to take home third place and essentially guarantee herself a qualification into the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships next weekend at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mia Montgomery placed eighth in the region in the triple jump with a distance of 11.27 meters. Her distance ranks in the top 50 nationally.

Brockport's Sarah Crockett won her second straight AARTFC Indoor crown in the women's shot put as she set a new facility record with a throw of 13.98 meters.  She narrowly missed out on matching her personal best throw of 14.00 meters which she set in a winning effort at the SUNYAC Championships last weekend. Crockett currently ranks ninth nationally in the shot put and is expected to qualify for nationals next weekend in the event.  '

The men's distance medley relay team of Thomas Kressley, Frank Derdzinksi, Nick Markle and Jonathan Zavala set a new school-record with a time of 10:17.37 and placed second out of 14 teams.  Their time ranks 39th nationally.

Brockport's women's 4x400 meter relay team of Lucia Sibley, Kaylee Haynes, Rhea Winter and Sarah Levine placed sixth with a time of 4:06.62. Their time ranks fourth on the program's all-time indoor list.

Alex Rood placed fourth in the men's shot put at regionals with a throw of 14.83 meters to secure five team points for Brockport.  Rood and teammate Art Jordan are currently ranked in the top 15 nationally in the shot.  Jordan ranks fifth nationally following his personal best throw of 16.61 meets at RIT in February and Rood ranks 14th with his throw of 15.77 meters which he posted at the SUNYAC Championships last weekend. Elijah Washington placed seventh in the shot put for Brockport at regionals with a throw of 14.69 meters to earn two team points for the Golden Eagles.

Kerry Flower placed fifth with a personal-best time of 18:07.86 in the 5K to earn four team points for Brockport. Her time ranks sixth all-time in Brockport's Indoor record book.

Ellie Ramirez set a new personal best with a throw of 12.06 meters to take home sixth place in the shot put while earning three team points for Brockport.
