Men's Lacrosse Gears up for A Two Game Week

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team will prepare for two road games this week as they will first head to Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers (0-3) on Tuesday, March 8th at 4:00 pm. They will then journey over to Keuka College (1-0) on Saturday, March 12th for another 4:00 pm faceoff against the Wolves.
 
Weekly Recap
The Golden Eagles (2-0) are coming off a week in which they went undefeated after big wins against Morrisville State (2-1) by a score of 17-6 and SUNY Delhi (0-3) by  a score of 17-5.
 
Morrisville State Recap:
Against the Mustangs, Senior Jack Peterson notched a team-high six points on five goals, a career high, and one assist. Patrick Sheridan also put up strong numbers with a career-high four goals to go with an assist to total five points. Nelson Logan racked up four points on two goals and two assists in his first game with the Green and Gold.
 
Owen VanWie had three points from two goals and one helper. Aidan Long got in the box score with a pair of assists in his first collegiate performance. Aidan Fitzgerald caused a game-high four turnovers and also recorded the first goal of his career on the day. Luke Conway came up with two caused turnovers defensively and scooped up a career-high six ground balls.
 
John Felice made 13 stops in net for Brockport and teammate Cameron Kuzniar made two stops after taking over late in the contest. Felice has now recorded at least 10 saves in three straight games, dating back to last season.
 
SUNY Delhi Recap:
17 different Brockport players registered at least one point on the day.  All-Conference face-off man Ethan Stiles won 14-of-18 chances at the x and scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.  Aidan Fitzgerald added six ground balls, while Luke Conway caused three turnovers for the Golden Eagles. John Felice got the win between the pipes for Brockport, while Cameron KuzniarEvan O'Connor and John Acker each saw time in net in the second half.
 
The Golden Eagles outshot the Broncos 53-18 on the day, and they were 20-for-21 on clear opportunities. As a team, Brockport picked up 37 ground balls and netted two man-up goals. 
 
PrestoSports SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week
In a press release on Monday afternoon, The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Brockport's Patrick Sheridan and Luke Conway as the PrestoSports Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week for the week of March 7th, 2022.  
 
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Sheridan, a fifth-year senior attack from Chili, NY, combined for nine total points on six goals and three assist in the teams two victories this past week. Against the Mustangs, Sheridan scored a total of four goals in the game with one assist having a total of five shots on goal in the game. Facing off versus the Bronco's, Sheridan scored two goals while making two assists for four total points with three shots on goal and picking up one ground ball.

Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Conway, a senior defenseman from Westbury, NY for the Golden Eagles, recorded a total of eight ground balls and five caused turnovers in the teams two wins this past weekend. Against the Mustangs, Conway had six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Against SUNY Delhi, Conway recorded two grounds balls with three caused turnovers.

NCAA Team Stats
Through two games, the Golden Eagles currently have the second most successful clearing percentage in the nation having made 41 successful clear attempts on 42 attempts for a .976 success rate. In points per game, Brockport ranks 11th in the country with having 57 points they average 28.5 points per game. The team's defense has allowed the 14th fewest amount of goals per game with an average of 5.50 having allowed 11 goals so far. On the offensive side, Brockport is tied for the 17th best offense in the country averaging 17 goals per game. With three extra-man on goals on seven attempts, Brockport is tied for the 40th best man-up offense across division III.
 
NCAA Individual Stat Leaders
Senior goalkeeper, John Felice, ranks as having the 11th best goals against average with 5.06%. His save percentage is tied for the 21st best in the nation with .667 saves as he's made 14 in two games. Owen VanWie is tied for eighth place in shot percentage as the senior midfielder has made four goals on six shot attempts for a successful percent rate of .667%. Patrick Sheridan ranks 27th on the shot percentage list as the fifth year attack has recorded six goals on 10 shot attempts.
 
Weekly Opponents
 
Looking at Nazareth:
The Golden Flyers have started out their season 0-3 with losses too; Springfield which resulted in a 18-14 score, the No.1 team in the county RIT by a score of 25-9 and Clarkson University by a score of 19-15. Brett Randall leaders the Golden Flyers in points to start out the season with six goals and eight assists for a total of 14 points. His eight assists leads the team. The team's leader in goals scored this season in Quinn McKercher who's record seven goals on three assists for a total of 10 points.
 
Carson Pickeral and Eric Almquist have spent the most time in goal amongst Golden Flyers Goalkeepers. Pickeral has spent a total time of 97:52 in goal and allowed a total of 36 goals in two games. He holds 22.07 goals against average and with 30 saves against 95 shots faces a .455 save percentage. Almquist has accumulated 73:57 in goal so for having one start in two games played he's allowed 23 goals and made 17 saves on 67 shots faced. He holds a 18.66 goals against average and a .425 save percentage.
Looking at Keuka College:
The Wolves (1-0) recently defeated the Hilbert Hawks 9-7 on Saturday, March 5th. prior to facing Brockport this Saturday, Keuka will host Lycoming on Wednesday, March 9th for a 4:00pm faceoff. Will York and Nicholas Pipher lead the Wolves scoring offense as each has totaled four points in one game. York scored four goals against the Hawks while Pipher recorded two goals and two assists in the Wolves on game of the season so far.
 
Dylan Hoad, a junior goalkeeper for Keuka, has allowed a total of six goals while spending a total time of 59.44 in goal. he posts a 6.03 goals against average while recording 12 saves against 32 total shots for a save percentage of 66.7%.
 
What's Ahead
Following its two games this week, the Golden Eagle's men's lacrosse team will host Hilbert College on Wednesday, March 16th at 4:00 p.m. at Bob Boozer Field. Following that game, the team will gear up for a bus trip to John Carroll University on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 pm at University Heights, Ohio
