Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is on the road on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with Nazareth College. The game is set to start at 4 pm.
Top-20 Victory: The Golden Eagles opened their season against the nationally ranked Denison. At No. 16 Brockport defeated No. 13 Denison, 15-11, on the road to start the year 1-0. Although Denison held an 8-5 lead at the half, Brockport's seven goals in the third quarter sparked the comeback. The loss put Denison at 1-2 on the season and the team dropped to No. 17 in the nation.
Moving Up: After taking down Denison in the first game of the season, the nationally ranked squad for the Green and Gold moved up in the rankings. Brockport jumped up from No. 16 to No. 12 in this week's release of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
Goalie of the Week: Morgan Elmer was chosen as the PrestoSports Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week. The SUNYAC offices made the announcement on Monday, following last week's action. Elmer played the full 60 minutes in net during Brockport's 15-11 win over Denison. Elmer finished the game with 15 saves, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls.
Wagner's Next Milestone: Head Coach
Stephen Wagner adds another win to his record and becomes even closer to 200 wins for his career. Wagner's last win puts him at 196 for his career as a head coach, including 111 wins since taking over at Brockport in 2012. He needs just four more wins to reach this next milestone for his career.
Triple Threat: In the win over Denison the Golden Eagles had three players record a hat trick.
Alayna Foos led the team with four total points from three goals and one assist in her collegiate debut.
Allison Jennings also had a hat trick with three goals, including what became the game-winner.
Cassidy Burnash joined her two teammates with a hat trick of her own.
Looking at Naz: Nazareth is heading into Wednesday's meeting with an 0-1 record to start the year. The team fell to RIT, 15-16, in a close battle at home. #14 Emma Robinson and #19 Maren Wallace both recorded hat tricks in the contest. #0 Katie Lawrence played the entire 60 minutes in net for the Golden Flyers and made 12 saves. Brockport has defeated Nazareth in each of the last two meetings and is looking for a third in a row.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 16
th for another road game. They travel to take on No. 7 William Smith College at 4pm in another showdown between nationally ranked programs.
