Plattsburgh, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team took on Plattsburgh on the road on Monday. Brockport lost game one, 2-0, and then lost a hard-fought game two, 8-7.
The Golden Eagles are now 7-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Plattsburgh jumps to 8-10 overall and 4-2 in the SUNYAC.
Game 1 – Brockport 0, Plattsburgh 2
Cameryn Duggan batted 2-for-2 in the game for the Green and Gold.
Madison Evarts was 1-for-2 at the dish and also drew one walk.
Olivia Hayden and
Emily Willis-Nersinger both went 1-for-4 in game one.
Molly Ryan connected for a hit in her lone pinch-hitting opportunity.
Catherine Johnson (1-3) got the start in the circle for the Golden Eagles. She pitched her fourth straight complete game, striking out five batters along the way.
After a scoreless inning in the first, Plattsburgh got on the board with a solo home run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Both pitchers threw well to hold the offenses without a run scored in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
The hosting Cardinals added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 2-0 game. Brockport was able to load the bases in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not get a run in to score. Plattsburgh sneaks away with the 2-run victory to start the doubleheader.
Game 2 – Brockport 7, Plattsburgh 8
Hitting from the clean-up spot,
Annie Dipirro was great in game two. Dipirro went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Emma DeJesus connected for two hits in her four at-bats, had one RBI, and came around to score a run.
Olivia Hayden batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and drew a walk. Hayden was active with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Cameryn Duggan was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and one run scored.
Madison Evarts,
Molly Ryan, and
Amanda Blakely all were 1-for-4 at the plate. Evarts and Ryan both knocked in one RBI.
Amanda O'Connor finished 1-for-3 with a run score, while Amanda DuTot touched home plate once as a pinch-runner.
Senior
Megan Van Dorn went 3.1 innings in her second start of the season. She struck out two batters before
Fiona Gibiser (1-1) stepped into the circle in the fourth. Gibiser received the losing decision after pitching 3.1 innings with one strikeout.
Annie Dipirro got Brockport on the board early in her first at-bat, bringing home
Olivia Hayden on an RBI single. Plattsburgh answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added a fourth in the second to go up 4-1.
Cameryn Duggan's RBI double in the third helped spark a rally to tie the game.
Molly Ryan and
Emma DeJesus also brought in a run to make the score 4-4 going into the bottom of three. The Cardinals scored a run to go up 5-4, however Brockport's
Jackie DuTot hustled home on a passed ball in the fifth to tie the score once again.
With the score reading 5-5, the Golden Eagles broke the tie as DeJesus came home to score in the top of the sixth.
Madison Evarts singled shortly after to give the squad a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of six. Plattsburgh added a run in the sixth and went on to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win, 8-7.
It's a quick turnaround for Brockport with another road matchup scheduled for tomorrow. The Green and Gold take on Potsdam for another SUNYAC doubleheader, starting at 3 pm out in Potsdam, NY.
