Golden Eagles Continue SUNYAC Play This Week

Brockport, NY – The No. 20 SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team is back in action this week with another pair of SUNYAC matchups. Brockport travels for a 4 pm date with Geneseo on Wednesday, before coming home for a 1 pm matchup with Potsdam.

Ciara McKeon Game: Prior to the start of Saturday's game we will take some time to remember Brockport women's lacrosse alumni, Ciara McKeon. McKeon, a member of the 2016 graduation class, recently passed away. A short tribute and moment of silence will be held where current and former players of the program can honor Ciara McKeon.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles hosted Cortland last weekend under the lights for a rematch of the 2021 SUNYAC Finals. It was a battle for the full 60 minutes in this rivalry showdown. Cortland edged out a slim lead and did enough to hold onto it through the final horn. The Red Dragons went on to steal a 12-9 victory. Brockport's record moved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Offensive Leaders: Alayna Foos leads the way with 32 total points and a team-high 26 goals which is top 10 in the SUNYAC. Claire Odett has scored 22 goals and worked for a total of 29 points so far. Allison Jennings has a total of 27 points and has 20 scores to her name. Logan Hibbard leads the Green and Gold with 10 assists and has scored 15 goals to total 25 points. Cassidy Burnash has 20 goals on the season and has extended her streak to 22 games in a row with at least one goal.

Hustle Plays: Logan Hibbard leads the team in both caused turnovers with 11, draw controls with 28, and is second with 21 groundballs. Courtney Cunningham is right behind Hibbard with nine caused turnovers, 27 draw controls, and 15 groundballs. Alexandria VanDerKar has come up with 20 draw controls, while Emma Smith has forced eight turnovers.

Elmer in the Back: Starting goalkeeper Morgan Elmer continues her great work on the backlines for the Green and Gold. She still leads the conference with 120 total saves and has the highest saves percentage of 56.3% in the SUNYAC. Elmer's goals against average of 10.80 is third-best in the conference. She has seven games with 10 or more saves, leads the team with 26 groundballs, and has caused six turnovers.

Geneseo Matchup: The Geneseo Knights enter this mid-week battle with a 7-2 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the conference. They have won back-to-back games by a double-digit margin after defeating Oswego, 17-6, and Potsdam, 22-4. Geneseo was recently seen in the receiving votes category in the most recent IWLCA Top 25 Poll. #23 Hannah Marafioti leads the SUNYAC in assists (25) and is second in the conference in points (52). Brockport went 1-1 in two regular season games against Geneseo last season.

Looking at Potsdam: At 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC, Potsdam will play Canton on Thursday prior to this weekend's matchup with Brockport. The team has lost its last two games, being defeated by Geneseo, 22-4, and Oneonta, 24-8. #22 Anita Reitano leads the conference in goals (39) and total points (56) this season. Brockport is 23-1 against Potsdam since the teams began playing each other back in 1995 and has won 21 in a row over the Bears.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will play both of their games next week on the road. They first face Buffalo State on Wednesday at 4 pm before Saturday's 1 pm meeting with Plattsburgh.
