Women's Tennis Returns for Spring Action with Busy Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team returns to action for the spring season this week with a full slate. Brockport heads to the Binghamton Tennis Center for SUNYAC matchups against Plattsburgh, Oneonta, and New Paltz.

Fall Recap: The Golden Eagles won their last two matches in the fall, carrying a record of 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SUNAYC into the spring. They had non-conference victories over St. John Fisher, Houghton, and Alfred as well as a win over Oswego in conference play.

Solo Success: Caroline Stewart is back looking to extend her eight-match win streak in solos. Dating back to the spring season in 2021, she has not lost in her second singles slot. Eliza Gonzalez closed the fall season with a win in first singles, improving to 3-2 in solo play. Samantha Aubin also sits at 3-2 in singles after a nice win in the final match of the fall.

Top Duos: The Green and Gold did well in doubles play in the fall, with all three duos earning records above .500. Caroline Stewart and Eliza Gonzalez were a perfect 5-0 in the first doubles slot. Sisters Shannon Aubin and Samantha Aubin worked together for a 4-1 record in the fall. Heather Phillips and Elizabeth Sirico went 3-2 in doubles play in the fall.

Plattsburgh First: After a loss to New Paltz in their last match, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals are 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC. They had won five straight prior to the 8-1 loss to New Paltz at home over the weekend. Plattsburgh is 2-1 so far in three matches this spring. The Cardinals look to make it four in a row against Brockport with Thursday's match beginning at 9 am. They will go on to face Geneseo on Friday and Fredonia on Saturday.

Oneonta Up Next: At 11-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference, the Oneonta Red Dragons look to build upon a four-match win streak. They have been fortunate to play seven matches so far this spring as the postseason rapidly approaches. The Green and Gold looks to get a win over Oneonta for the first time since 2015 on Friday, starting at 3 pm. Oneonta faces Fredonia on Thursday and Geneseo on Saturday.

New Paltz on Saturday: The New Paltz Hawks are 6-4-1 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC play heading into the week. They have played six matches since the brief fall season, and are on a three-match win streak. New Paltz takes on Geneseo and Fredonia before Saturday's 12 pm matchup with Brockport.

SUNYACs Coming Up: Brockport has this weekend and just one more match before the regular season ends. The 2021-22 SUNYAC Championships begin on Friday, April 29th down in Binghamton. Teams across the conference must qualify to compete in the postseason.

Next Matchup: The Golden Eagles are on the road once again next weekend for the final regular season match of the year. They take on Geneseo at 1 pm on Saturday, April 23rd.
