New Paltz, NY – The No. 14 SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team opened up conference play with a 12-9 win on Saturday over New Paltz. Trailing, 9-6, in the fourth quarter, Brockport scored six unanswered goals to comeback for the win.
The Golden Eagles improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC. With two goals in the contest,
Allison Jennings recorded the 100
th goal for her career. She becomes just the 14
th player in program-history to break the century mark.
Alayna Foos led the squad with five total points on three goals and two assists. The freshman standout has now recorded three consecutive hat tricks and leads Brockport with 18 on the season.
Logan Hibbard also scored three times in the game, notching her third hat trick of the year.
Claire Odett tallied three points on the day from two scores and one helper.
Cassidy Burnash scored twice in the outing, continuing her streak of scoring at least once to 20 straight games. Goalie
Morgan Elmer made double-digit saves for the sixth time in seven games, finishing with 10 saves in the win.
The Hawks came ready to battle, working for a 2-0 lead in the early goings of the first quarter.
Cassidy Burnash and
Claire Odett would score to tie the game up, but New Paltz scored again for a 3-2 lead going into the second.
Alayna Foos and
Allison Jennings scored quickly in the second quarter, but New Paltz would respond. The hosting Hawks scored four consecutive goals to earn a 7-4 halftime lead.
Odett and Burnash would find their second goals to keep Brockport close as the third quarter got rolling. New Paltz matched the pair of scores in the third, holding its three-goal edge as the fourth quarter began. The Golden Eagles dominated the final 15 minutes, winning the quarter 6-0 to steal the 12-9 win.
Logan Hibbard scored all three of her goals in the last 10 minutes of the game.
Brockport continues its action within the SUNYAC next week with a home contest against Fredonia. It all gets started at 4 pm on Tuesday, April 5
th at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
