Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team was swept at home by Fredonia during Friday's SUNYAC doubleheader. Brockport is now 9-15 overall and 2-8 in conference play after losing game one, 5-2, and game two, 12-4.
Game 1 – Brockport 2, Fredonia 5
Annie Dipirro connected for two hits in three at-bats in the first game of the day, knocking home one RBI.
Madison Evarts also brought in a run while batting 1-for-3.
Cameryn Duggan went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Julia Palopoli (L, 2-2) started in the circle, going for three innings with one strikeout.
Megan Van Dorn also had a strikeout in two innings of relief work.
Catherine Johnson threw the last two innings of game one, striking out two batters.
Neither team was able to score in the first two innings, but Fredonia changed that in the third. The visiting Blue Devils brought three runs in to score to take a 3-0 lead.
Annie Dipirro and
Madison Evarts both brought a run in to score in the fourth, making it a 3-2 game. Fredonia added two insurance runs later in the game to secure the 5-2 win.
Game 2 – Brockport 4, Fredonia 12
Olivia Hayden knocked in two RBIs in a 1-for-3 effort at the plate in game two.
Madison Ross went 2-for-2, had an RBI, scored one run, and drew a walk.
Morgan Skpowski was 1-for-2 with an RBI, one run scored, and a walk as well.
Cameryn Duggan was 1-for-2 with a double and one walk.
Hannah Jacobs went 1-for-3 at the dish with a double and a run scored. In her lone pinch-hitting opportunity,
Molly Ryan connected for a double.
Annie Dipirro was 1-for-3 and teammate
Jackie DuTot scored a run as a pinch runner.
Hali Jenner (L, 3-5) made her seventh start in the circle, only pitching for 0.2 innings.
Catherine Johnson came on in relief and went 3.1 innings with six strikeouts.
Fiona Gibiser and
Roseland Stroh each took a turn as well to help finish the game out.
Fredonia got up big early with seven runs in the top of the first inning.
Olivia Hayden rattled off a two-RBI single in the second to put Brockport on the board. Then in the third,
Madison Ross brought in a run to score which made it a 7-3 game.
Just as Brockport chipped into the lead, the Blue Devils added five more runs in the fifth inning to take a 12-3 lead.
Morgan Skpowski helped get
Jackie DuTot in to score in the bottom of the fifth, but Brockport was unable to rally. Fredonia took game two in five innings, 12-4.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday to celebrate Senior Day at the Clark V. Whited Complex. They take on SUNYAC foe Buffalo State for the last home doubleheader of the regular season. Game one of the set begins at 12 pm.
