Softball Splits on Senior Day Against Buffalo State

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team split with Buffalo State at home on Senior Day on Saturday. Brockport took game one, 8-7, before falling in game two, 5-3. The team is now 10-16 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
 
Game 1 – Brockport 8, Buffalo St. 7
 
Hannah Jacobs was 2-for-4 in the game with a double and one RBI. Jacobs played the hero in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off, RBI single which helped Brockport complete the comeback win.
 
Cameryn Duggan and Molly Ryan both got on base four times in game one of their Senior Day doubleheader. Duggan scored four runs, batted 3-for-3, and hit two doubles. Ryan was 2-for-2 at the plate, which included a two-run homer. It was her first of the season and the third of her career.
 
Annie Dipirro was 1-for-4 in the game and was credited with three RBIs in the victory. Emily Willis-Nersinger went 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and a double. Hali Jenner recorded the first hit and RBI of her collegiate career, batting 1-for-2.
 
Olivia Hayden finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Amanda O'Connor came in and scored once as a pinch runner for the Green and Gold. Emma DeJesus went 1-for-2 with the bat and scored one run for the squad.
 
Julia Palopoli started in the circle for the Golden Eagles. She pitched 3.1 innings, gave up five runs, and struck out four batters. Hali Jenner entered the game in the fourth, giving up two runs in 2.2 innings of action. Catherine Johnson (W, 2-6) earned the winning decision after pitching a clean three up/three down inning in the seventh.
 
Buffalo State got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half of the first, Molly Ryan put Brockport up 2-1 with her two-run moonshot over the left field fence. The Bengals regained a 4-2 lead with three runs in the top of the second.
 
The two SUNYAC opponents traded blows in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Thanks to RBIs from Emily Willis-Nersinger and Annie Dipirro, Brockport only trailed by one going into the sixth. Buffalo State added two more runs in the top of six to make it a 7-4 game.
 
With her first collegiate hit, Hali Jenner knocked in her first RBI as well to give the Green and Gold a run in the bottom of the sixth. Trailing, 7-5, going into the seventh, a two-run RBI from Annie Dipirro tied the score up at 7-7. Then shortly after, Hannah Jacobs stepped up to hit the walk-off single and give Brockport the win.
 
Game 2 – Brockport 3, Buffalo St. 5
 
Emily Willis-Nersinger came up with three big RBIs in game two of the Senior Day action. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Cameryn Duggan continued her strong day hitting the ball, going 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored.
 
Olivia Hayden, Annie Dipirro, and Hannah Jacobs were all 1-for-4 in the game with the bat in their hand. Madison Ross made good on her lone pinch-hitting opportunity with a single. Amanda O'Connor ended up one hit in her three at-bats in the game. Amanda Blakely and Kellie Gentile both scored runs as pinch runners.
 
Megan Van Dorn (L, 0-3) made her fourth start of the season in the circle for Brockport. She pitched 3.2 innings, gave up three earned runs, and struck out one batter. Catherine Johnson stepped in for 3.1 innings of work, giving up one run to go with three strikeouts.
 
The Bengals once again scored in the first inning, this time taking an early 2-0 lead in their first at-bat. They would go on to take a 5-0 lead after the top of the seventh, as Brockport was held without a run through six.
 
Emily Willis-Nersinger finally put the Green and Gold on the board in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded she hit a base-clearing double out to right center field, making it a 5-3 game. However, the squad was unable to complete another late rally, falling to Buffalo State in game two.
 
The Golden Eagles now prepare for Monday's doubleheader against Oneonta for more SUNYAC play. The game will be played at Onondaga Community College for a neutral site game. Games are set for a 3pm and 5 pm start on April 25th.
